Jack Nicholson and Jack Daniels
Snowstorm, storm. It's freezing outside. Jack Torrance is sitting at the bar. In the "Gold Room." With Jack. Jack Daniels. Village cat Peter is not here. He's with me. We're not sitting at the bar. We're sitting in front of the TV. Watching "The Shining." With Jack Nicholson. And Jack Daniels. We're watching Jack drink Jack. Jack and I are drinking Jack. Peter is watching. Getting too complicated? OK, I understand.

"You smell wrong!" Peter whispers to me. "Wrong for this movie!" and pushes something towards me with his paw. "Take this, it came in the mail today!" He amazes me time and again, now he can even handle the mailbox. "Don't look at it! Spray it!" he squeaks. "Spray and enjoy!"
30ml bottle. Already unpacked. I should take Peter to "Wetten Dass?"

Cinnamon! I smell cinnamon. And cola. Cola whiskey, to be precise. But different. Fresher. From the barista. Not the coffee barista. From the spirits barista. From the mixologist. From the master.
Peter says there's bergamot in it. And cardamom. That's right. And a lot more. That's true too. I can't pick it out individually. But the overall composition does it. "And rum! The whiskey is rum!" Peter quacks to me in the review. He can read too, you know. The old know-it-all.

I'm now in the woods. Not in reality, but in my thoughts. In this maze. It smells of green coniferous wood. A hint of tobacco smoke lingers in the air. Pipe tobacco. I follow it through the snow. A man with an axe is chasing me. But I smear him.

I'm back on the sofa. Peter is purring. I'm not frozen. I take a sip of vanilla tea. Bourbon with bourbon. And pop a piece of chocolate in my mouth. Peter presses the OFF button, we close our eyes and enjoy our new Gold Room.

My special thanks go to Martin, who created the fragrance and allowed me to test this masterpiece in advance!

I'm your man, Lloyd.
Fragrance stations:

Gold Room by Grauton Parfums opens with a tangy rum-cola-cherry note, playfully accompanied by a matching citrus freshness. This alcoholic top note convinced me right away and triggered a "wow" moment + "cola impact" that I haven't experienced in a long time. But don't worry, as beautiful as the top note is, it is not a typical crowd-pleaser; rather, it paves the way for a truly good, authentic fragrance for the cold season in perfume concentration.

Real neroli and citrus notes of lime and lemon initially give the fragrance a pleasant zest, from which a cool, "ice cube"-like facet briefly emerges, perfectly fitting the alcoholic theme of the perfume.

Quickly, a true delight unfolds from beautiful, slightly smoky cedar woods - Atlas, Texas, and Virginia - accompanied by woody balsam. Spicy tobacco notes impart a cozy, refined, noble, yet modern and masculine warmth to the fragrance - fitting the atmosphere and story behind the inspiration (Stephen King, 1977 / Stanley Kubrick, 1980).

In the drydown, Gold Room becomes a bit sweeter, but this is well balanced by the many intense woody tones, the slightly dirty vanilla, and the warm tobacco, keeping the fragrance in a masculine spotlight, even though it is declared genderless.

Highlights:

I was particularly impressed by the execution of the top note, which is not only perceptible as a herbal, isolated davana but convinces as a harmonious davana-cola note. This is perfectly complemented by the zesty citrus of lime, lemon, and neroli, as well as the airy rum notes. The cherry-cola theme evokes syrupy cherry coke drinks from 1950s diners in the USA - refined with a touch of cream. The tangy cherry note also brings to mind Dr. Pepper cola, fitting excellently with the later era that inspired this fragrance.

Another aspect that brings me a lot of joy in this fragrance is the combination of the various cedar woods, which make the scent wonderfully deep and woody from top to base. They create a very successful bridge, both olfactorily and thematically, between the extraordinary top note and the long-lasting finish of the perfume.

Further aspects:

With Gold Room, you get a convincing overall package: a highly concentrated fragrance that olfactorily captures the cult scene of a fictional story in a dark atmosphere and showcases the usual high creative/craftsmanship performance and ingredient quality of this German indie microbrand at a great price-performance ratio.

I hardly need to say a word about the decent projection and long-lasting performance until the next day. Furthermore, Grauton Parfums has also made another leap in quality with this release in terms of packaging and presentation (sprayer, cap, box, labeling).

Personal closing words:

If I were ever to have a bespoke alcoholic tobacco-cedar fragrance made with cherry-cola notes, it would smell exactly like this. And I believe that even Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick would be thrilled with this result.

For me personally, Gold Room is the best fragrance that Martin Fuhs has released under his brand Grauton Parfums so far. This is exactly how it should smell and nothing else!

Cheers.

Fragrant Dream Dimensions?
Hello Parfumos,

The Gold Room comes in perfume concentration, so >=30% perfume oil.

Ingredients (officially from the manufacturer):
1. Neroli
2. Rum CO2
3. Davana
4. Atlas Cedar Abs.
5. Patchouli Heart
6. Tobacco Abs.
7. Bourbon Vanilla Abs.
8. Tonka Bean Abs.

One spray on the skin:
I hadn’t worn any perfume for days, so it’s clean.

Top note: Bright, fresh, very, very slightly clean (soapy), Neroli, but not as artificial and radiant as the Viennese Forest wet wipes, rather just beautiful, unobtrusive.
After about 50 minutes, a slightly balsamic, somewhat darker, warmer note begins to creep onto my skin. I’ve smelled this before, but where?
Up to this point, the scent is unique, elegant, and really good.

Slowly, the fragrance transitions into the heart note. Now it becomes dirtier, smokier, and very dominant. Is it the combination of Atlas Cedar Abs., Patchouli Abs., and Tobacco Abs.? For me, the smoke in the combo is tobacco, not sweet, somewhat dirty, and quite authentic.
About 3 hours and 30 minutes have passed. The scent just radiates.
The projection into the room is enormous.

The base note: after x hours, the scent has undergone a smoky treatment and becomes softer, gentler, and a bit sweeter. A successful conclusion of the fragrance occurs with Tonka bean and Bourbon vanilla in combination. Also very long-lasting.

One spray on paper:
Here, the scent progression is the same, only the times change significantly.
The top note lasts longer here than on the skin, about 1:30-2:00 hours.
Neroli is even more noticeable.
The heart note can still be smelled after 16-18 hours, and the base note lasts even longer.

Miscellaneous:
The spray head of the bottle is absolutely high quality and delivers a round, homogeneous spray pattern.
You can dose very well here.

The packaging and presentation are very high quality for me, although the bottle itself lags a bit behind the rest in terms of originality and design.

Application:
Can be worn as an everyday scent, but also as a fragrance for an evening date.
Personally, I see the scent more as a fragrance for men, but that’s a matter of opinion.

The price:
Currently, €95 is being asked for 30 ml on the shop page. €3166.67 / 1l
For comparison, an Aventus currently costs €5333.33 / 1l from the official Creed homepage (as of 02.2025).
The price for the Gold Room is absolutely justified.

Conclusion: The scent is exceptionally well designed. The radiance is gigantic, but even when multiple sprays are applied, it is never overwhelming.
The components used are deliberately selected, composed, and harmonized.
The scent progression is Champions League.
The components also play in the top league qualitatively.
Nothing here smells synthetic, cheap, or simple.
An extremely successful fragrance that clearly sets itself apart from mass-produced goods and will bring joy for a long time.

A fragrance with dream dimensions

Good evening

I am shocked...
Hello everyone,

Recently, I finally got to test the Gold Room and form an opinion.

Background:

Since 2022/2023/2024, my ENTHUSIASM for NEW fragrances like those from Roja, XJ, Amouage, and the like has been so low that I feel I probably won't buy any newer batches from them for certain reasons (I recommend my blogs for fragrance lovers that delve deeper into this).

And what does this have to do with the Gold Room?

Well, to be honest, my mindset regarding current fragrances under €100 (except for Chanel + Guerlain) is quite modest, and that's why I didn't necessarily believe that it could really be something "GOOD"! The Greyfruit and the Pour Homme were really top-notch, but past experiences don't always reflect the present...

About the scent:

We have a very exciting fragrance that goes through many stages.

At first, you notice a bit of the fruity component, but the rum clearly has control over the scent at the beginning, and before you know it, the many existing cedars take over from the rum. Tobacco joins in.

And I recognize so many of my old and current favorites here, like the (more affordable) Manhattan Eau de Parfum, the Enigma pour Homme Parfum, and also the Enigma Parfum Cologne and the Manhattan Parfum because of the rum, tobacco, and cinnamon.

And in the end, the scent becomes woody, earthy (pleasant and not intrusive) and has a certain sweetness. Yes, that sweetness is there, but it is not implemented in a way that gets on your nerves.

And why am I shocked?

Well..., to be completely honest and "hands down," when someone creates a fragrance for around €100, my enthusiasm as a fragrance lover is rather lukewarm. After all, I am currently exploring other leagues. And I say this with the utmost RESPECT for Martin Fuhs,
but what he has created here leaves me with my mouth agape!

That nowadays, something like this can still be produced with such quality + this effect - respect. Anyone who knows a bit about fragrance oils, their composition, and how they work - whether synthetic or "real" oils knows that it is a very fine line to get it right and authentic, especially considering the price. WOW!

Finally, I would like to say something small about the bottle, the cap, the cardboard outer packaging = everything is absolutely fine and suitable for the price (nothing wild), but this is not a criticism! The case and the "display" are very good for the price range, and the sprayer is one of the best I have ever seen and felt = better than Roja and Chanel!

I just want to say, and Martin Fuhs could confirm it = I did not receive a bottle or any money, this is my purely personal opinion!

If you have the option, please test it!

And now have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

The addictive fizzy cola opening with some citruses is followed by some soft spices. A minimal smoke accompanies the warm woods in the base.

It doesn't reach me. Cola doesn't appeal to me, the rum-lemon mix becomes increasingly woody and a bit smoky with a lot of cypriol.
