a love letter to something sweet and cherished

Imagine a little picnic with your beloved stuffed bunny, the threadbare and shabby old thing with the missing eye and the unraveling stitches and the patch on its little belly where the stuffing has begun to leak through, the one you’ve loved so much and for so long that there is no doubt in your mind that it is the very realest rabbit. And picture the most realistic mud pie you ever made, so true to life in fact that when you took a crumbling bite of it, it actually tasted a bit like a lightly spiced tea loaf, gently sweetened, with a soft, tender crumb– maybe a seasonal apple or zucchini bread, but minus the actual fruit or vegetation. As a matter of fact, there’s little to no greenery in this scent at all, even the clover and the hay is more honeyed sweetness than grassy or botanical, and I do think that verdancy, that sense of green growing things, is what’s missing for me. This fragrance is less Peter Rabbit and more Velveteen Rabbit, right down to the well-worn cozy, cuddly fuzzy, snuggly skin musk of it– and as a matter of here's a fleeting there-and-gone curious note that seems to be aiming for milky and creamy, but briefly veers a touch sour and unwell almost like a hint of baby spit-up. Like your beloved stuffed bunny that served as a faithful childhood repository for various ailments and was never quite fully sanitized. Despite its peculiarities and what it's missing, it truly feels like a love letter to something sweet and cherished, and so far back in time you can never reach it again–and I think that’s ultimately what makes it so evocative – it’s the memory, how you felt in that garden and that friendship with your soft, sweet companion, filtered through the lens of childhood wonder and a love so fierce it transcends reality.

no carrot or carrot cake, but still pleasant

unfortunately, i am in the minority where i can only pick up on primarily the citrus, some florals and greens. the sweetness of the cake is only noticable for me in the full dry down, but it's still so incredibly faint to my nose.

it's quite earthy for me moreso than gourmand, until the dry down.

some say that this is moreso of a citrus/lemon cake to them, which steer towards for me as well.. so sad because i've been wanting to try this for a while.

at least it doesn't come off as a spoiled dessert, hutch, cleaning product or soap to me.

i had some friends try and they agreed, but hopefully you get the raving sweet cutesy carrot cake instead of this!

wholesome loaf

Wholesome, rustic carrot cake sprinkled with decorative fruits and flowers. The intersection of cottagecore and twee. Rabbit opens with a classic autumnal cinnamon-carrot-spice medley but gambols into something far more nutty and vegetal within thirty minutes. A healthy cake, in the same way you might convince yourself zucchini bread counts as a vegetable. Something about Rabbit feels very “whole wheat.” There’s also a prominent squeaky-clean green apple note, straight copy-pasted from Cow. A Zoologist for the nichey normies (me) and the low gal gourmand girlies (also me). However, while this is the first carrot note I’ve met that actually sticks around and isn’t choked out by cinnamon, I didn’t find myself wanting any more than a sample.

Mental Snapshot: A warm ingot of carrot cake, studded with walnuts and wrapped in emerald-green parchment paper. Homey, hearty, homemade. Like something you might find waiting in the Hufflepuff common room or peddled at a Hobbiton market. One slice fills the same as a four-course meal.

Mouth-watering earthy carrot cake

When I was younger, my mom used to bake a very textured carrot cake. To anyone with sensory issues, this cake would have been a nightmare. The carrots were sliced unevenly, the almonds and walnuts grossly chopped. Each bite packed a punch. It felt, at times, like eating rabbit food. But under all those textures was the best carrot cake flavor ever. My mom had a very demanding job, so she did not make carrot cake often, but I knew I was about to have a good week when those spicy-sweet vapors wafted from the kitchen.

Rabbit by Zoologist is that, plus a thick layer of buttercream frosting. This is a unique gourmand with some earthy, green notes. If you sniff it enough times, your mouth starts to water.

The patchouli pulls through a bit too strongly for me, and I need to get through more of my sample before deciding if this is bottle-worthy.

Cute Rabbit

I immediately get gourmand and vegetal, including cinnamon. I've heard folks wax poetic about this smelling like a carrot cake. I see hints of that, but it's not exactly there. An hour in and all I can think of is Spring. It's a dance between carrots, biscuits, and fresh green. It's not particularly strong, and only has a medium longevity. I do feel cute when wearing it. Certainly interesting and complex, but unless I come in to loads of money I won't be getting a full bottle. There's something to be said of how tempted I am to buy this because of the art design on the bottle, though!
