Oud, Musk, Camel!
Sunset in Doha might be one of the most animalic compositions in the sunset line yet. It opens with bold ouds from India, cambodia and Burma. The oud is front and centre, with a captivating and addicting funk. I get minor similarities to the oud profile in sunset in Assam, and js signature attar.
Animalic musk is also a main player from the very start. It is raw, intense and not for the faint of heart. I'm struggling to think of another perfume where the musk is this feral. This is (I assume) all thanks to the tibeten musk and camel hair tincture. It creates the coziest, powdery and spicy animalic zing.
I also get tobacco which is dry, powdery and smoky. The tobacco further enhances the animalic nuances, and allows the perfume to gently, and slowly morph to allow some faint flowers come through. Jasmine and rose are listed, however very hard to pin point.
Doha opens with a bang, but transitions into such a beautiful, and seductive musky perfume. It's becoming one of my favorite perfumes Marius Pana had created.
I think fans of oud, especially oud with a kick, as well as fans who love animalic musk might find their favorite release of the year in this one. But on the other side of the coin, the oud, and animalic adverse, and those looking for a clean, mass appealing perfume might actually die when they smell this
