SMOKEY!
Sunset in Tennessee is a bold fragrance that channels the warmth of a Southern summer evening, evoking images of sunsets over smoky hills and the lingering richness of smoked whiskey barrels.

This is unapologetically rich and rugged, with notes that feel both raw and refined.
From the first spray, Sunset in Tennessee immediately makes an impression. The dominant note of smoked oak wood is intense and atmospheric, capturing the essence of charred whiskey barrels with a bold, smoky aroma that leans more towards a deep campfire rather than just a hint of smokiness. This grounding note is incredibly realistic, blending the warmth of aged wood with a wisp of smoldering embers, creating an almost primal scent profile that’s unmistakably smoky.

As the fragrance develops, a nice sweetness emerges, balancing the smokiness with a rich, almost caramelized note. It has a subtle BBQ-like edge, an earthy, sticky sweetness reminiscent of BBQ sauce caramelizing over flames. This accord brings a comforting warmth to the scent, adding an unexpected charm that softens the intensity of the smoke.

Overall, Marius has crafted something genuinely unique here, capturing the essence of Tennessee’s smoky sunsets in a bottle. If you’re a fan of smoky fragrances with a hint of sweetness and a lot of character, Sunset in Tennessee is for you.

Sunset in Tennessee: A Love That Grows on Skin
It was almost love at first spray... but only almost. My very first impression? Honestly, I didn’t like it. It came off strong, sharp, even overwhelming. But all it needed was a little time—time to settle, to blend with skin and air, and to reveal the wonder hiding beneath the boldness.

There might be a fleeting citrus touch in the opening, but the real star here is oak wood. Imagine being transported to a sun-drenched summer afternoon, right at golden hour, standing in a small-batch whiskey distillery surrounded by endless fields. Every note in the fragrance captures that setting perfectly.

From the sun-dried oak with its dry, herbal nuances, to the smoky char from barrel toasting, every layer adds depth. The result is an incredibly rich, slightly boozy scent reminiscent of peaty whiskey. Add to that a stunning tobacco absolute, softened—but not sweetened—by beeswax, plus a perfectly chosen gurjum balsam, a quite heavy dose of oakmoss and a chorus of other woody notes.

It’s masculine, bold, and intriguing, yet remains wearable and incredibly well-balanced. Performance is excellent—projection especially is impressive, making it impossible to go unnoticed. I haven’t tried it in the colder months yet, but I can already tell: this is a scent that will warm up your winter nights—and make them unforgettable, even in the middle of a snowstorm. Great job there Marius!

Sunset in Tennessee: A ballad of booze, smoke & woods!
Ooooowee! What a scent. Bold, brash and bombastic, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I wouldn’t consider it challenging in the traditional sense, it’s just a scent that asserts itself—strongly!

Starting out with a beautiful citrus top that really is reminiscent of 7up as Marius describes, the heart of bold oaken woods soaked in whiskey, steeped in vanilla with just a touch of maple and immersed in a cloud of rich and raw tobacco smoke—it’s fruity nuances amplified by those of the special Cedarwood absolute and further adorned by a subtle touch of warm, sweet leather from the real, fresh castoreum used—wastes no time at all in stealing the show. While wearing, you’ll get continuous wafts mainly of warm, smokey vanilla and deep, bourbony oak.

Make no mistake—the woods here are strong. This concoction may very well contain the most ardent arbor of all my collection. So if you’re not an oak and woods enthusiast—gaiac, mahogany, rosewood and gurjun balsam being the other main culprits here—you may want to think carefully before journeying down this arduous arborous path. Lastly, the beeswax and propolis provide a gentle honey/pollen/nectar-like frame that, like wax, helps meld everything together… All drying down to a woody, resinous mix that retains much of the same characteristics but with the vanilla becoming more prominent, taking it from a boozy, smoky, vanillic wood perfume to a boozy, smoky, woody vanilla perfume, which, just as it sounds, is downright delectable.

Potentially a little too intense for some, but almost certainly an intoxicating scent for all, this commanding fragrance can easily be imagined on discerning and high profile figures in the very classiest of settings. I myself can’t help but imagine sitting by the archetypical manor fireplace in a warm leather-backed mahogany chair, in one hand some of the world’s finest whiskey and the other an imported cigar, basking in the glow of smoldering oak logs that reside in the library hearth, the scent of the paper from warming books also filling the air… Alternatively, one could easily imagine being down in the depths of an age old distillery, being given the privilege of inhaling the scents from the insides of their oldest and most sacred oaken casks.

While the price tag is on par with houses of similar esteem such as Elixir Attar and Agar Aura, and lies on the lower end in Jinkoh’s Sunset series, it easily lives up to it’s extrait name in terms of longevity and sillage with just 1-3 sprays being amply enough for a single wearing depending on one’s sensitivity. More than that can be worn of course, though being slightly sensitive to scents myself I’d personally cap it at about 4-5 so that I’m not overwhelmed. But still, that might do it! Also be careful when using with lighter clothing—like other strong brews this one leaves pigment on skin.

Phenomenal work. Thank you Marius!

Film associations: Yellowstone, MobLand, Sherlock

Music associations: Lounge, Jazz, Country, Folk, Noir

Other fragrance associations: N/A! Though the is the first of the Sunset series I’ve had the pleasure to try.

A precious piece that’s always tough to part with, but I’m glad to be able to provide 8 drop samples the way Luckyscent used to do for Elixir Attar and Agar Aura items upon request. Please feel free to browse all my inventory via my collection page and the links posted to my wall!

Thanks so much for reading.

Smoky whisky
Starts off super smoky (tar type of smoke) pairing with deliciously sweet cranberry jam. Soon, you start getting more and more of that honeyed sweetness. The smokiness is toned down, but still lingering and in the base you start smelling the oak barrels filled with aged bourbon whisky. Such a great masculine boozy type of fragrance
The projection on this is absolutely ridiculous as well

Me and my (Whisky) Wood
Today, I would like to describe a fragrance that I have been eagerly anticipating, as it is interesting to me not only on the level of perfumes but also connects to another, truly heartfelt theme, namely whisky. For over 12 years now, I have been engaging with it, getting to know and love these noble drops, which has also led to wonderful friendships, long nights philosophizing over a glass or two, and my love for fragrances has, in a way, been awakened by the "water of life".
Therefore, it is almost a matter of the heart for me to present this fragrance here, but let's take it step by step.

This time, Marius takes us right to the USA, to Tennessee, the birthplace of blues, rock 'n roll (especially Elvis deserves a mention here), country music, and also the main hub of American whisky production, particularly bourbon whisky. According to my latest figures, about 90% of all bourbon is produced in Tennessee. (I think a brand like Jack Daniels is known to everyone.)

But before this turns into a whisky blog, let’s spray the fragrance. Right from the start, the scent actually deviates from the American theme in certain accents.

I was very curious when Marius announced that he was using wood from old whisky barrels, in which smoky whisky had previously matured, which is exactly my forte :D I prefer my whisky smoky, dirty, and edgy. At the beginning of the scent's development, I feel transported directly from the USA to Scotland, to the Isle of Islay, the home of smoky whisky. So it’s quite a contrast, as bourbon or American whisky is by no means known for its smokiness. The scent here truly has something rough, wild, and primal, with a certain rawness.

The fragrance opens with an overwhelming wave of citrus. Sudden, bombastic, filling the room, but also somehow refreshing, preparatory, almost like an aperitif :D
As the citrus veil lifts, venerable charred wood emerges beneath, still with clear traces of ash from the last charring process and blessed by the many years of its use. Ah, what wonderful drops it must have absorbed and brought to perfection over its lifetime!

The smoke is balsamic, phenolic, slightly medicinal, peated whisky at its finest! A subtle and slightly salty sea breeze with a hint of seaweed joins in the background, with very light BBQ bacon notes in the snapshot; one could almost think one is standing in an old cellar where the noblest dark-dirty drops are maturing, or as if someone had poured a bottle of good Scottish whisky in there! :D xD
If you sniff closely, you can even detect, in my opinion, the most homeopathic doses of whisky. I’m going to lean out of the window quite a bit and claim that, if you are familiar with the topic of whisky, it would indeed be possible to somewhat reconstruct the whisky that once rested in the barrels in your mind. But to calm down, without slipping into the "booze" category! Here in the fragrance, the focus, according to my observation, is clearly on the wood!

I must admit that I suspect this part might deter most people; it did slightly deter me at first, but it is definitely worth sticking with it!

Rosewood and cedar calm the fragrance down a bit in the further course, taming the "wild beast" and guiding it well over, creating a grounded base. I feel that the rosewood was not necessarily needed in this fragrance, but in the end, it doesn’t take anything away from the overall scent. Now notes of dried fruits, especially raisins, join in; one could almost think that a sherry cask has been incorporated, especially PX sherry is known for its syrupy dried fruit notes. Exciting :D This is all complemented by honey and malty notes, with a hint of maple syrup. A slight floral note wafts subtly in the background but is rather negligible. The smokiness gradually decreases until it finally fades away completely.

Now we have arrived in the USA; the notes become a bit finer, no longer entirely separable, but still beautifully executed as a package. Now the bourbon aromas come into play beautifully. Vanilla gives a light, subtle sweetness, slightly waxy notes that represent the typical "glue note" of a good, classic bourbon quite well (but don’t worry, it really smells 0 like glue!) and thus give the fragrance a bit more grounding. Speaking of tobacco, it is finely dosed here and adds a few dry and woody accents to the development. On this finely woody-dry tobacco note, the fragrance then also slowly and leisurely fades away.
I personally don’t perceive beaver much, but I think I occasionally notice a few chocolate-like moments in the middle part.

All in all, a fragrance that satisfies me on both sides of my favorite hobbies. However, I believe the fragrance is quite special overall, especially since, at least for the Sunset series from Jinkoh, it is rather unusual, completely without oud, or at least without oud-like influences. But for those who appreciate good whisky or simply have a penchant for wood, I think this is a great fit :)

Apple, whisky, honey. Sticky and boozy, the hungover morning after. Too linear and overpowering for me, but the notes are actually right up my alley.
