Rice? What rice?!
What a disappointment! I had ordered the discovery set from D'Annam just because of this scent, and I feel truly let down. I'm a huge fan of rice and pandan notes, so much so that I almost blind-bought a full bottle of this. Luckily, wisdom prevailed, and I opted for the discovery set. The projection on this is so poor, even after spraying it liberally on my wrists and clothes I can barely pick it up. I thought I was anosmic and asked my partner and friends what they think of my perfume. The invariable reply: "Oh, are you wearing perfume?!"

All that aside, there's so little rice in this, it's like even the leftover chaff in a bag of jasmine rice would feel more pronounced. And so stingy with the pandan, how could you??? I was hoping for a whiff of my favorite fragrance that made me fall in love with rice, Annam. Now THAT was a rice fragrance, rich with steaming basmati and florals, there was no way you could ignore that, like holding your head above a steaming pot of rich, just off the stove boiling rice.

An ode to rice
A beautifully musky, fresh, and only slightly sweet take on rice. This opens with smell of freshly steamed rice paired with pandan. The pandan helps elevate the rice by adding a touch of green, earthy, sweetness without overpowering the steamed rice. The heart of this is a buttery orris with a fragrant jasmine rice. It’s reminiscent of rice pudding almost but it’s too starchy and light to go in that territory, and not very sweet either. The dry down is beautifully warm and musky with remnants of that jasmine rice. It’s a very comforting rice scent and perfectly balanced all throughout. A gorgeous fragrance

Disappointing
After seeing so many TT content creators and redditors rave about the fragrance, I blind bought this.

What a disappointment. The starchy (dry, uncooked rice) scent is lovely, but lasts all of 10 minutes on my skin and then vanishes into nothing. I've tried overspraying, and even then it doesn't last--by the time I get out of the house, it's gone. My body chemistry just doesn't mesh well with this one.

Not what I expected
It's more light and sweet than I expected. It's a barely-there, sweet, creamy musk with a tiny bit of rice. I wish it was more savoury. The sweet musk DNA to me is similar to Father Figure by Phlur, but I prefer that one- it would be hard to justify owning both of those in one collection.

I'm usually not one to worry much about performance, but I can't smell it at all unless I stick my nose right up to my skin. And I only sprayed it 3 minutes ago

It's good, but L'eau Papier stays on top

Overly Hyped No Substance
I truly wonder how some people can be praising this. It makes me assume the people who like this are simply not exposed to high quality fragrances. Its truly an awful perfume on every level.

The initial spray is a quick waft of fresh rice. Like when you just open the rice cooker and that fresh scent comes out.........that would have been decent except it lasts for 20 seconds max then it disappears into this cheap minty nothingness. It literally ends up being mint and water in less than a minute. I even used a big dose after to try to give it another chance but there was no change.

Never have I encountered such an over priced over hyped weak scent with zero projection before. And let's say hypothetically the rice scent does linger for long, the problem is..........the smell of rice water on its own is a very medicinal smell. If you are asian you know what I mean. When youre a kid and with a stomache flu your mother would prepare some rice water for you so you wouldn't puke anything up. Its a one dimensional scent which doesn't last.

A good example of the perfect rice scent would be sakura rice from Rituals. A hint of cherry blossom with rice. Sadly, that scent is only available as diffuser sticks and scented candles. The fact that Dannam released such an overpriced perfume (overpriced in terms of how bad the value for money is) which cannot even compare to a scented candle from Rituals is just sad.

I thought it was overhyped but now I am OBSESSED. It’s addictive in a way, skin scent, clean scent, but also just seductive and beautiful.

A cold bowl of white rice blended with fresh, clean musks. It's pretty, but lacks the warm, sexy nuttiness of my favorite rice scents.

The rice note is strong at first, but dissipates pretty quickly. Inoffensive and soft. Has a very slight urine scent on my skin.

my ideal rice scent. very dry starchy rice with a hint of sweet grassiness from pandan. Woody dry down is comforting

Reminds me a bit of cleaning saddles; not really leather but of grain and saddle soap. Very relaxing, would make a good bedtime scent.

I love this scent but simply can’t get it to last longer on my skin than an hour.

Opening is photorealistic rice, more-so than I was expecting from the brands on-trend east asia marketing. Dries down into a smoky wood / fig.

Smell like sticky rice with a hint of perfume, dries down to something woody. It’s nice

Photorealistic starchy white rice with a hint of jasmine. Sometimes it’s detectable all day, sometimes I can barely smell it. Skin scent.

Open with a strong yummy rice note, and settle into a beautiful skin scent, warmer and creamier than L’eau Papier
