Ébène Maison Alhambra

Maison Alhambra Ébène surprised me right from the first spray. The opening is dark-spicy and slightly mystical: Artemisia brings an aromatic-green freshness, while elemi resin and clove immediately create a warm, slightly balsamic depth. The start is not loud, but elegant and controlled - almost like a niche fragrance with ambition.

In the heart, the scent develops significantly woodier and resinous. Guaiac wood provides a gently smoky, creamy wood structure that, together with incense, creates an almost meditative aura. Cistus adds a slightly leathery-resinous facet that gives the fragrance character and depth, steering it clearly in the oriental-amber direction.

The drydown is, for me, the real highlight: amber, benzoin, musk, and vanilla merge into a warm, soft, almost addictive base. It is here that the closeness to Yves Saint Laurent Babycat becomes evident - after some time on the skin, the two are hardly distinguishable olfactorily. Especially the combination of vanilla and musk feels luxurious, round, and very close to the skin, without ever becoming sticky sweet.

Overall, Ébène is an exceptionally successful fragrance twin: elegant, warm, slightly smoky, and very high-quality in appearance. For lovers of oriental vanilla-amber compositions, it is a true insider tip - especially considering the price of under 20 euros.
