Good Opening, Synthetic Ending (Versace Eros Alternative)
As a young guy, Versace Eros was my signature scent.
I wore it almost daily for years, and my 200 ml bottle seemed to last forever.
At some point, however, I got tired of it and didn’t replenish my supply.
Maison Alhambra has tried to clone Eros with "Jubilant Oro / Versencia Oro | Maison Alhambra."
I have to say, they have only partially succeeded.
The opening of apple and mint is definitely well done and immediately reminds me of old times.
On top of that, the lemon adds a fresh zest to the fragrance.
However, in the drydown, things take a turn for the worse.
While you can still perceive the familiar notes of Eros like apple, mint, lemon, as well as tonka and vanilla in the air, it smells extremely synthetic and oddly green directly on the skin, a note that the original does not have (possibly oak moss?).
Unfortunately, this synthetic quality becomes noticeable in the air over time as well.
I would estimate the similarity at about 80%, but there is constantly this artificial, green note present.
The original definitely feels more pleasant and of higher quality, even though it is also quite a synthetic fragrance itself.
Regarding performance: in the first 30 minutes, I find it strong, but after that, it pulls back and radiates only moderately; still, I perceive it for at least 9 hours.
The scent is clearly masculine for me and not unisex.
The unisex label here seems to serve only marketing purposes.
My conclusion: I would prefer to go for the original; the extra cost is worth it.
However, for those on a tight budget, Jubilant Oro is a solid alternative.
