Mirasol - Not Your Average Aquatic
Out of the latest batch of new scents from Maison des Animaux for the fall and winter of 2025, this one stood out to me in that it felt much more summery. And with summer fragrances, they seem to almost always fall into one of three categories: sweet fruit, coconut/sunscreen, or "blue" aquatics. Looking at the notes before I decided to buy my last round of samples, I was expecting this to be a combination of the sweet fruit and aquatic. However, I was pleasantly surprised and found Mirasol to be a fairly unique offering.
I do initially get some fresh spa water vibes, as the first notes I pick up are cucumber, watermelon, lychee, and the sea water. It doesn't come off as sweet as the cucumber-melon fragrances we're all familiar with, though. This feels fresh, realistic, as if someone just sliced up the cucumber and fruits and added them to your glass. Those top notes fade off within the first thirty minutes and you're left with an absolutely lovely skin scent; it is so very reminiscent of lingering warmth from the sun after a long day by the pool or on the beach. The cocoa is noticeable but it doesn't go in a dessert or confectionary direction, and instead just adds a hint of sweetness whilst enhancing the warmth and depth of the musk and ambergris. I'm not entirely sure I get much of the rose? I suspect it melts into the fruits near the beginning. Overall, wearing this begins like taking that first deep breath after settling in for a seaside vacation, and ends with a long sigh at the end of the day, telling yourself, "Yep, I deserved this trip." No cloyingly sugary, candied tropical fruits, no Banana Boat or Coppertone sunscreen, no generic "blue water" notes. A wonderfully refreshing and comforting take on the seaside spa kind of fragrance.
So far I've only been able to test this fragrance in the cold months. Longevity is around 4-5 hours, with soft projection (personal bubble to skin scent). I'm expecting that when I get to try this out in warmer weather, the performance may change.
While Maison des Animaux is a house I struggle to vibe with, having only fallen for Celeste out of all their other offerings thus far, I still deeply appreciate the artistry the sisters behind this house are pursuing. Many of their scents seem to be on the heavy or animalic side (appropriately so, considering the house name), but for those seeking lighter fare Mirasol will be a fantastic option.
