Like a hand cream

I love the whole pyramid of fragrances. Pink pepper, jasmine, benzoin, tonka bean, sandalwood, vanilla. I thought this must be the perfume for me, so I bought the discovery set. Conclusion: "I don't like it." Why? I didn't like the base fragrance of Maison Matin. It reminded me of the base fragrance of a hand cream that comes in a paint-like aluminum package from a general store, or rather, it reminded me of general goods. It reminded me of air freshener, so it didn't blend in with my body. None of the series had a seamless feel that blended with my skin. It's a shame, because the packaging was great. I wish it was a hand cream. I think it gave me a bit of a headache. Because it contains a lot of artificial fragrances. I wish it had a more natural scent...

Powdery vanilla soap

This is unexpectedly soapy. No idea where that’s coming from, but on me this fully smells like a bar of soap from an upscale and somewhat old-fashioned hotel. Powdery vanilla soap. Not unpleasant, but not at all what I was expecting. I tend to dislike powdery scents and soapy scents so safe to say this is not for me.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no

I initially had a sample of Avant L'Orage and found it so good that I ordered the bottle during a discount promotion.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have bought it again, as I don't wear it as often compared to my other fragrances and I don't like it as much as my other perfumes.

I really have to be in the mood for the scent, but it does happen from time to time (maybe it's just the guilty conscience that I bought it now :D)

As some of my predecessors have noted, this scent unfortunately has the potential to annoy.

However, I don't find it extremely sweet; what bothers me more is that it smells a bit uneven for my taste.
As if the fragrance notes don't quite fit together or harmonize.

This impression also depends on my mood; sometimes I like it better, sometimes worse.

The individual fragrance components generally hit my taste exactly.
However, I feel that none of them really stands out here or comes into its own to create a wow effect for me.

The vanilla is quite subdued (which is a pity, as I love vanilla scents), the musk is too car-centered for me, and the jasmine is only sweet here; I miss the floral aspect.

I can well imagine that I will part with the bottle someday… maybe… because somehow it is still quite sweet :D

The search continues…

I stumbled upon this fragrance while I was actually looking for another one.
Since I wasn't familiar with the brand and the bottle looked so cute, I eventually followed the link and thought, oh, this one sounds even better in terms of the scent notes than the fragrance I was originally searching for.

For me, Avant l'Orage is an almost perfect dupe for “This is her” by Zadig & Voltaire.
And I love that one!
It smells cozy, warm, creamy - for me, it’s simply a feel-good scent.
“This is her” was once compared by a user to the milk bath that Cleopatra bathed in.
Since then, I have been searching for a fragrance that embodies exactly that for me.

Avant l'Orage, as well as This is her, come quite close but are still not quite perfect.

Even though I’m happy to have added the fragrance to my collection, I am a bit disappointed with the longevity, and even though I was prepared for a similarity to “This is her,” I did expect a certain independence.
In the dry down, they differ slightly from each other, but I really only notice that when I wear both on my hands and alternate sniffing them.

So the search for my perfect “Cleopatra milk bath” fragrance continues.
On my watchlist, which might embody this scent for me, are among others “Santal Blanc” by Van Cleef & Arpels or “Musk Therapy” by Initio.

Maybe I will indeed find this perfect “creamy coziness” soon.
