A very close, slightly fainter take on Myslf L'Absolu
Mykonos Conquer goes after my favorite Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, Myslf L'Absolu. I own two of the original, mostly as a backup, and this one is significantly cheaper, so I was keen to compare them side by side.
The signature Myslf profile is right there from the first spray. The original's notes are bergamot, ginger and cardamom on top, orris and orange blossom in the heart, and patchouli, musk, amber and vanilla at the base, and what I like about it is that it transforms as you wear it. For the first ten seconds the original is a little brighter and stronger on the bergamot and ginger, while Conquer leans more toward the flowery orris, orange blossom and cardamom. They are so close you can't really tell unless you sniff them side by side.
After an hour the original is probably about 20 percent stronger. In Conquer you can still smell the cardamom and orris, then the musk, amber and vanilla come in. It starts fresh, inviting and vibrant, then dries down darker and sweeter, respectable and pleasant. It is a little fainter than the Absolu, though. If you can't afford the original, it is a good alternative, but Hawas Thunder would be a better one. Slow Living and Empire remain my top Mykonos picks.
