An oriental leather-coffee fragrance
When I read the fragrance notes of Zaman Al Ula for the first time, I immediately had a sweet gourmand scent in mind.
Dates, coffee, caramel, sugar and vanilla - that sounds pretty delicious.
So, without further ado, I got myself a bottle and was able to test it extensively.
Zaman Al Ula starts completely differently than I imagined the fragrance would.
The first thing I notice intensely is leather. I am not a fan of leather because I often find it too earthy or masculine. But the leather note in "Zaman Al Ula" is pleasantly gentle, soft and smooth.
The leather is joined by coffee and caramel. The coffee is not too intense or strong, but it is still very perceptible and slightly sugary due to the caramel.
I don't know if it's just me, but in some fragrances (e.g. Date Caramel) the combination of coffee and caramel gives me licorice. I also get this note in the opening of "Zaman Al Ula".
After a short time, the fragrance becomes warmer and spicier. Cedarwood is clearly recognizable and also amber. The amber gives the fragrance a warm, resinous, slightly balsamic-sweet note.
In the drydown, I perceive a slightly smoky, dry and minimally fruity tobacco note that could come from papyrus.
The lasting power of around 7 hours is good. However, I would have expected more power from such an oriental fragrance. It is very present in the first 2 hours, but then becomes increasingly softer.
Zaman Al Ula is a unisex fragrance that tends to be more masculine for me due to the leather and cedar wood.
It is very oriental and heavy so I see it in fall/winter.
I will not buy a bottle because unfortunately it is not a gourmand fragrance for me as I had hoped.
But if you like the combination of leather and coffee, you should definitely give Zaman Al Ula a try.
