Mysterium Paris Corner 2025

Feeling comfortable and in concordance / agreement with how this fragrance hits my senses / just the way it was made. It just fits every perfection / imperfection button in my nose and balances those out, leaving just a total agreement from my side, if that makes sense. Even if it pushes me out of my comfort zone due to the slightly bitter side of the Maracuja (apart from sweet and fruity).
Also, the Maracuja (Passion Fruit) and Leather contrast is just divine, and I usually never end up liking leather scents at all. It feels in this case like these notes conform a perfect symbiosis.
Well done.

When I first tested Mysterium in a perfumery for oriental fragrances, my first thought was that it was far too old-fashioned; I’m just too young for that.
However, I recently received a sample in the newsletter and was able to test it extensively again.
What can I say? I've fallen a little in love with this fragrance.

The opening is a bit of an acquired taste.
Leather and cinnamon, which immediately remind one of a classic perfume from days gone by, dominate the opening.
I don’t perceive any of the listed fruity notes like bergamot and passion fruit, though.

In the dry down, cinnamon and leather remain prominent.
The scent is pleasantly sweet and exudes a true gentleman attitude.
In my opinion, it’s definitely something for a mature man and not entirely unisex (M70%/30%W).
In the background, one can subtly perceive a very noble, classic rose that adds additional finesse to the fragrance.

As it develops, I notice labdanum and incense, which give the fragrance a slight oriental facet, but they hold back noticeably.
The rose, on the other hand, now comes forward a bit stronger.
It forms a very beautiful, elegant, and classic composition together with leather and cinnamon.

Although I am actually a fan of gourmand fragrances, sometimes I just want to smell elegant and classic.
Mysterium is perfect for that.

The performance is impressive.
I was able to perceive the scent well on myself all day without it becoming overpowering.
However, I noticed that one has to be careful with the dosage; one spray too many could quickly be too much.
The longevity is also nice; the fragrance easily lasts all day, and that’s exactly what I celebrate.

My conclusion:
Sooner or later, I have to get a bottle.
I think the scent is great and can recommend it to anyone looking for a classic, elegant fragrance that can still be worn in 2025.

P.S. This is said to be a dupe of "Tony Iommi Monkey Special | Xerjoff."
Unfortunately, I’ve never tested that, but I wanted to mention it at the end.

A note at the beginning, the Tony Iommi by Xerjoff is one of my all-time top 5 fragrances. I have had several bottles of the OG, as well as the DUA Rockstars. And now I stumbled upon this fragrance from Paris Corner by chance. As far as I know, there are almost no dupes for Tony Iommi. Okay, the DUA is supposed to be one, but in my opinion, it is not a 1:1 dupe. Different story, this is about the Mysterium. In terms of scent profile, there are many similarities to the original; the fragrance DNA is undoubtedly very similar. In a direct comparison, with Xerjoff on one wrist and Mysterium on the other, there are noticeable differences. Mysterium is fresher, has a stronger passion fruit note, but less rum and sweetness. This perfume is not as heavy, not quite as complex, but it does its job very well nonetheless. I would say it's the more everyday-friendly Tony Iommi Monkey Special. The longevity on my skin, but also on clothing, is very good, a tad weaker than the OG, yet still easily 10 to 11 hours, longer on clothing. The sillage is also decent; you will definitely be noticed. And regarding the price, I can only say that this fragrance profile does not need to cost nearly 400 euros/100ml. Mysterium is not a 1:1 dupe, but a very good, fresher alternative if you do not want to spend the high price for the original. I like to wear this during the day and in the evening the slightly more potent and "deeper" Tony Iommi. Recommendation definitely goes out.

Mysterium is exactly what the name promises: a fragrance full of mysteries - only here you don’t have to ponder long about why it smells so damn good! If you know the Tony Iommi Monkey Special by Xerjoff (and perhaps were disappointed), you should take a close sniff of this one.

Because yes - Mysterium is very similar to the Xerjoff hit, but it simply does more with it: The fruity opening with passion fruit and cinnamon hits you right away, without going overboard. Then it continues with a slightly dark heart of rose, leather, and incense, reminiscent of a nighttime stroll through a mystical orchard - but in a cool way. And the base with patchouli, labdanum, and sandalwood rounds it off with a creamy, slightly smoky warmth.

In direct comparison, the Xerjoff Monkey Special seems almost a bit musty - as if it had a bad day or had been lying in the sun too long. Mysterium, on the other hand, remains fruity leathery, dirty, and balanced.

It simply has that “wow effect” that you would expect from a more expensive niche fragrance.

Longevity? Top. Sillage? Presence without being intrusive. Price-performance? Clearly a hidden gem!

If you like Tony Iommi but don’t want the overripe patchouli and the Xerjoff price, this is the one to go for. Mysterium is not just an alternative, but a real improvement.

As the title suggests, this fragrance is heavily inspired by the Tony Iommi Monkey Special from Xerjoff, which is my absolute favorite scent and one that I also own.
However, I believe that you need to be in a certain mood to wear the Tony Iommi, and it can only be used in very limited situations, as it is quite strong, dark, and complex.
This is where the Mysterium comes into play. Compared to the original, it is not quite as dark and complex, and above all, not as sweet. For me, it starts off relatively fruity and directly pleasantly leathery, although it does not carry the prominent rum note of Tony Iommi. As the fragrance develops, the fruity passion fruit note fades a bit, leaving behind a pleasant leatheriness.
The biggest difference for me lies in the absence of that sweet (and slightly salty for me) caramel note. Since this part of the Tony Iommi can be polarizing, the lack of caramel is both a curse and a blessing.
In summary, the Mysterium is the groomed version of the rockstar Tony Iommi, which can simply be worn in significantly more situations if you love this DNA, just like I do.
However, if you're in the mood for it today, the Tony Iommi definitely has more to offer.
