A joyous hymn to summer, sun&the beach
Incredibly pleasant, catchy, comforting, pleasing - excellent! The spirit of summer, the sea, an idle day on the beach, a light breeze of wind and sand. Doesn't last very long, though, because it is ultra-subtle, but worth having and the pleasure is immense while it lasts. This lovely fragrance stirs my emotions, the warmth and hedonistic verve of this scent are hard to describe. Basically, it's a sensual mix of gardenia crowned with a sunburst of coconut and interesting salty notes. In my opinion AOD is a joyous hymn to summer and the sun. This scent can calm me down, it's a nice change from my usual up-front arsenal of heavy chypres. AOD is beautiful in a quiet way, a simple and delightful scent not to be missed.

The Sea is Still a Long Way Off
In Breton, "Aôd" means seaside, lake, and many praise the aquatic notes here.
But, to be honest, I am far from the sea or the beach with Aôd.
There are no salty, fresh notes like in "Pioggia Salata" or in the magnificent "Acqua di Sale," which immediately throw at you the salty-bitter note of the sea with a strong breeze.

Aôd is more reminiscent of a beautiful day by the sea, with high clouds and a bright blue sky.
First, I step out of the Breton stone and wood country house, where it smelled a bit dark and musty, into the sunshine.
I walk through the garden filled with blooming summer perennials and pass the small, light forest, where the damp, sandy ground smells a bit musty and herbaceous.
I reach the crest of the dunes with its green sea grasses and look down at the beige sandy beach, where bathers and playing children are thoroughly slathered with sweet-creamy sunscreen.

And only then do I recognize in the background the vastness of the Atlantic and immediately want to inhale the iodine-rich air in deep breaths and breathe freely.

Aôd did not completely meet my expectations, yet I bought it. The scent has become a dear little treasure that I often and gladly spray on, even at work. It wears softly and kindly without being loud.

Gentle Breeze on a Breton Summer Day.
When thinking of Brittany, images of stormy seas and cloudy skies come to mind. But there are also beautiful summer days there with a light breeze. And this is exactly what this perfume reminds me of.

The gardenia is here caressed by a delicate hint of sea breeze. The fact that there is no grand scent development does not bother me in the least with AOD. I also find the shorter longevity here not disadvantageous. The fragrance simply emphasizes a relaxed beach feeling on a not-too-hot summer day.

Robinto, thank you for these olfactory vacation memories.

Bretonische Gardenia
I have had this sample in my box for three months, and today I just grabbed it blindly and sprayed it on. Many thanks to the nice parfumo for this testing opportunity.

Somehow, AOD reminded me of the Aoud used by Micallef for their oud fragrances, and my expectations were headed in that direction. But as soon as I sprayed it on, I realized I was mistaken. Whatever AOD might mean, it had nothing to do with oud.

At first, I was greeted by a citrusy fresh cloud, which disappeared in the blink of an eye - I have never seen (smelled) a top note vanish so quickly.

In its place emerged a flower; somehow it reminded me of a scent I knew, is it gardenia? A glance at the pyramid confirmed it. However, this gardenia is much more harmless than the one from Elizabeth Taylor's fragrance, but absolutely distinct.

My misfortune is that from then on, I perceived nothing else but the gardenia. It became a bit sweeter - I guess it was the coconut - but remained present throughout the entire fragrance development.

Even when the base was reached later and the scent appeared drier, the gardenia was still there.

A nice fragrance, but not for me. Gardenias and I - we are a little bit at odds.

My Beach Scent
AOD by Lostmarc'H is my beach scent. However, it doesn’t take me to the Caribbean, but rather to the Atlantic coast or a North Sea island (Lostmarc'H is a perfumery from Brittany and AOD means "seaside" in Breton). So yes, white sandy beach, but no palm trees, no fruit cocktails, no Calypso feeling. Instead, there are dunes, beach grass, wild roses, dark blue sea, cool spray, and warm beach sun.
I can only wear it on warm, dry days; then it really shines. For me, it is very down-to-earth, almost grounded. Although at the same time, it is somehow ethereal. Hmm, maybe it’s the blend of lightness and naturalness that the scent conveys to me.
In the heart note, there is coconut, but the scent is not sweet. The grapefruit opening is very subtle, so the fragrance is not fruity either. It’s amazing how the ingredients actually create this beach scent. I find it grounding and relaxing.
The longevity, however, is unfortunately only average.

Milky and salty fresh - a strange combination that Fusion d'Issey got all wrong. Here it is done properly.

Gentle, milky aquate that creates a subtle background sound of the sea, not pushing itself to the forefront. Light waves, horizon.

I stroll along the Breton seaside, the scent of seaweed and salt in the air. A light, fluffy summer fragrance, slightly herbal.

Delicate coconut blossom, dusted with 'Fleur de Sel', floats in the water. I feel a bit queasy - is it the milk ice or the waves? Yet it's still captivating!

A day by the rough sea and then floral-elegant in a black evening dress - this beautiful scent captures that transformation perfectly.
