Wearable tar

Matos never denies himself.
With Tar he wants to evoke the summer moments when as a child he watched the workers as they poured tar into the streets of his village.
How did he accomplish this? Licorice.
Aldeidate in the opening with added pineapple.
Smoky/incense to follow with a multitude of notes of which I perceive most coffee, caramel and warm spicy hints.
Strong, sharp, yet cozy at the same time.

A scent for the bold and eccentric

I've been very curious about this perfume from the very beginning as I am a big fan of birch tar. However, this is not the tar we are talking about here. Matos' Tar is certainly in the league of its own. As the perfumer explains, it is supposed to be the smell of tar in his imaginary world, thus, I will try to capture my own experience that was unleashed by the smell of this magnificent creation.

This is a dark fragrance with a piercing sweetness and spiciness that comes from licorice, star anise, and oregano. While this combination might deter some of the perfume lovers here, it is well worth trying—in my subjective opinion. The scent evokes an image of a campfire in the woods. But instead of burnt marshmallows, you smell burnt licorice, sweetened by caramel. You dip each piece of this black solid substance into a cup of rum and feed it to the hungry tongues of burning flames. The process is captivating; the black solid is transformed into a gooey, latex-like liquid that is slowly dripping into the flames. This hypnotic sweet and spicey smell is joined by animalic notes and deepened by the earthy patchouli and wafts of tobacco. The woody notes provide depth to the scent without taking the center stage, with the burning licorice remaining the protagonist. Overall, the scent is warm, addictive, smoky and edgy with a great balance of sweetness and spice.

This is not a scent that should be judged from the first sniff. Here the patience pays off in the long run. It is bold and provocative—perhaps even addictive and enticing! The performance is outstanding—some ten hours on my skin. The projection starts strong and remains strong during the first two to three hours. Another very interesting, edgy, unexpected offering.

Fossil Fuel - A Dark Brown Symphony of Horror

There are harsh scents and there are unusual, harsh scents. In the first category, it is somewhat easy to make a comparison with another fragrance to orient oneself or provide guidance to others. With Tar, I find it difficult. I received the scent a few months ago as a sample, and the travel spray was leaking (by the way, about 70% of all travel sprays that arrive at my place are like this, which is why I don't want to send them anymore). Every time I touched the travel spray, my fingers smelled so strongly that all other fragrances were overshadowed. The perfume is oily and the color is like motor oil. Somehow, that corresponds with the name and the smell. Since then, the scent has burned itself into my memory.

Why it is called Tar, I don't know exactly, because tar does smell a bit different. But the unusual semi-natural and dark form has something in common with tar. Smoky, black with brown speckles. Licorice and anise contribute to the dull and coarse quality. Along with a sudden and viscous note, which presumably arises from the addition of tonka bean, caramel, and coffee. How long did Matos experiment to create this work of art, which is so hard for me to classify? The attention here on Parfumo.de seems far below average. Of course, this is not everybody's darling, but where are those who consider acquiring yet another pure wood smoke fragrance? Dare to try it. It will stay in your memory. For me, it does, like hardly any other fragrances.
