Fresh, aquatic, and gently green

Calm Bliss

I’m not sure what to make of this one. It’s a heavy floral with an aquatic undertone, and in the initial spray those two aspects seem to fight for dominance. The florals (lots of lavender and bergamot) are quite loud, and at this stage it’s very soapy; definitely a “shampoo” scent.

It improves as it starts to settle, with the watery notes becoming more prominent and the whole thing somehow cleaner, quieter, and calmer. Now I see how it fits its name. It’s probably not for me just because I find the florals too cloying, but it does last and project well and would make a good spring/summer daytime fragrance if it’s overall profile is your thing.

Notes on paper were great, but on the skin ...

When Charlotte Tilbury's fragrances first appeared at Sephora, I was curious. I did sniff them there and wrote them off: they all had a weird streak to it and I decided to forgo the brand. I got this sample from a free sample giveaway on social media and decided to revisit at least one of their fragrance in the comfort of my home to see if my nose has changed idea. Spoiler: it hasn't.

This starts out beautifully. A soothing lavender, a bright bergamot zing and a delicate neroli. It has comforting and soothing qualities to it. After a few minutes, the aquatic note comes up and adds a calming quality to the scent. All was well. Then... there's the atrocious synthetic accord that comes up. I don't get how it came to be or if it's a mix of notes that went wrong, but it smells like a cheap air freshner or a bathroom cleaning product. It absolutely wrecked all enjoyment I was having of this fragrance up until then. Far from my nose, I can also catch a weird waft of baby powder product (?). Drydown is salty, woody and aquatic with that weird screechy synthetic note that is absolutely off-putting.

There are definitely better soothing herbal and aqautic fragrance out there than this one. Sample before you blind-buy and even then... Try out other fragrances in the same category. You'll definitely find a better offering out there than this one.

Soothing aquatic white floral

I’m sure this is called Calm Bliss because of all the notes associated with calming and mood boosting properties. Lavender, bergamot frankincense, palo santo, the ocean. This was a calming aquatic floral. Neroli is always great and I really did detect its light orange zesty qualities here, along with its sweeter sister, orange blossom. This is just a nice aquatic white floral meant to soothe you into a happier state. It reminds me a little bit of Salt Air Eau de Parfum which has some of its floral and aquatic aspects. I read Very Sexy Sea Eau de Parfum has very similar notes as well.
