Exploring New Scents #12 | Zoologist: Harvest Mouse
I was excited to try this little guy! I am a sucker for gourmands, and though it's not the most artistic piece in the Zoologist fragrance lore, I love anything with vanilla. For some reason, when I was a teenager my first real signature scent was vanilla based. Because of that, I have an obsession with fragrances with strong vanilla notes, it makes me feel so cozy, as did the opening of Harvest Mouse, a beautiful blast of vanilla and root beer!
Now I really am not a fan of drinking root beer. As a kid, this was a very rare treat, but it used to make me cry because I hated it. So Mom changed out the root beer and made it a Coke float instead, I was told it wasn't cheating, it was completely allowed, but this fact blew my little mind. Even though I still hate the drink, I don't mind the smell, especially when mixed with vanilla. Wait a little longer, and the hay note along with a smidge of chamomile will add another layer of coziness making this such a homey scent.
On clothing, you will be treated to vanilla, root beer and a hint of cedar and sandalwood, Lovely and light on both the person and on the clothing. Let this one settle just a tad bit longer and you will be greeted by a light dusting of cloves. Such a pretty light scent with a hint of gourmand.
After about an hour, the fragrance remains mostly the same except for a slight powdery note which creeps up from the background, much like a mouse sneaking into your garage in the early morning. I can only describe it as "Sweet Tarts." If you have ever gone Trick or Treating, you may recognize this as the powdery chalky, overly sweet disk candy which comes in 4 flavors, though to be honest, they all taste the same.
After about 3 to 3.5 hours, Harvest Mouse is ready for a nap, because the fragrance is now a skin scent. The longevity and silage are the one thing which is disappointing about this scent, unfortunately. You will need to reapply every 3-4 hours to keep it going, and even still. When at its full glory, Harvest Mouse stays very contained but lovely. This is a personal sphere scent for you alone or with someone special who you want to share a hug with. That's exactly what this scent is. A warm, cozy hug.
I could see how some might see this as a little more feminine, but all Zoologist fragrances are unisex and I can see anyone wearing this gentle scent. It really is beautiful.
If Harvest Mouse was a little stronger, I would give this little guy a solid 9.5 due to my love for gourmand-ish scents, but due to the lack of power and longevity, it gets a solid 8.0. It's beautiful, I only wish it lasted a but longer.
