Perfect startup
Blood of River Nile is a conceptual Rose-Oud fragrance. Personally, this is my favorite category, one that has been interpreted by almost every brand in every possible way. Yet, despite the abundance on the market, I still love discovering new iterations and the subtle differences brought forth by artisanal perfumers. Natural materials, especially oud and roses, always evoke strong emotions when in the right hands - and this fragrance is no exception.
I haven’t worn it long enough to fully dissect it, but based on my first impressions, the opening is bright and energizing. Right from the start, you can clearly sense the titular duo: plenty of Hindi Oud and a juicy, sun-drenched Rose Otto. Despite its depth, it wears effortlessly and is very approachable. While it slightly reminds me of FM’s The Night, Blood of River Nile is more complex and far more intriguing. Before you ask, do not worry about barnyard/fecal oud aspect. Here you will not experience here.
Zackaria truly knows his craft, and it shows, hats off to him!
That's something very good !
Nothing has piqued my interest like this in a long time. In a sea full of weekly releases and mediocrity, I finally feel genuine excitement here. The aroma of Kopi Luwak coffee—though I've never tried it—makes me believe the author captured the brewing process quite well. That first warm hit as the temperature rises.
This is how the scent opens: warm, bold, and coffee-like—I'm quite impressed. Unfortunately, this impression fades rather quickly, and the coffee note lingers far in the background, overshadowed by a rather complex base. Over time, the fragrance evolves into a rich, incense-like, resinous character. It somewhat reminds me of Golden Serenade by Rasquineta, but without the styrax and smokiness. It feels less sweet and more intricate.
The fragrance evolves intensely, gradually gaining a subtle sweetness, thanks to ylang-ylang and plumeria.
Siam Oud is distinctive, yet its presence is quite minimal. Similarly, the animalic aspects are there, but so faint that even those who usually avoid such notes will be pleased. One of the better releases of the year.
Gentleman Musk Tee
Complex and captivating scent that exudes elegance and sophistication. The musk note in this fragrance are beautifully blended with other exotic ingredients, creating a unique and long-lasting aroma. Easy to wear, for daily experience.
The silage and longevity of the Musk Cologne are highly praised, making it a great choice for those who enjoy rich and opulent fragrances. Overall, this cologne is a standout in the world of niche perfumery, offering a truly memorable olfactory experience.
Weird and fantastic at once.
The first Der Duft creation I'm dealing with. Accompanied me all spring and the beginning of the unbearable summer.
Tempted by opinions about connotations with another creation of Mr. Prin, a certain animal. I knew it would be a 10 points blind buy-shot!
So it is, an aromatic fougère with a modern twist, woody fresh, aromatic play of cypress with lavender in the opening.
Clearly bitter citruses, balancing with musk giving a bit of wildness. Imagine a hairy lime or a hairy orange lying on the oakmoss.
And the best, tobacco, beautifully resounding and changeable. Clearly present, unique. Complementing the whole. Thoughtful composition.
A beautiful niche that is not often talked about at fragcommunity. Pure perfumery art. There is No snakes or another inspired pineapple clone
End of some era.
Zoologist Squid is a unique and intriguing fragrance that captures the essence of the mysterious deep sea creature. This aquatic scent opens with a burst of salty marine and spicy pink pepper note.
All reminiscent of the ocean breeze, creating a fresh (but dry) and invigorating experience. As the fragrance evolves, hints of black ink and seaweed emerge, adding a dark and slightly earthy undertone to the composition. The dry down reveals a subtle sweetness from ambergris, balancing the marine and incense elements to create a complex and captivating olfactory journey.
Overall, Squid by Zoologist, still is my favorite from house, after many years.
It’s praised for its creativity, evocative storytelling, and the way it transports the wearer to the depths of the ocean with its unique and mesmerizing blend. I truly miss those days.
Happy trails.
