Visiting Grandma
Like every Sunday, I visit my grandma, and as grandmas are, the table is already set.
On the table are several glowing candles, and Grandma says I should start eating the peeled blood oranges until she takes the cake out of the oven.
Shortly after I have eaten a bit of the blood oranges, Grandma opens the oven, and it smells simply heavenly!
She has baked a juicy lemon cake that has risen beautifully and has a great color. Grandma takes the cake out of the oven and puts a little icing on top. Then she grates lemon zest over the icing and cuts the cake.
She puts a large piece on a plate and places it in front of me. Of course, Grandma has also thought of the nice cloth napkins. She lays the freshly washed cloth napkins on the table, right next to the vase with fresh lavender and roses. It smells so good that you forget everything else.
We eat the lemon cake together, and Grandma asks me how I like it. She says she spared no expense or effort and added vanilla seeds to the cake. To make everything taste especially sweet, she also stirred in brown sugar into the batter this time. Her secret ingredient: a tiny bit of cinnamon for that extra kick.
That was a super delicious lemon cake and, above all, a lovely day with Grandma!
