The Final Chapter of the “Odyssey Collection”: “Decision” and “Existence” by Amouage

With the unisex fragrances "Decision" and "Existence", Amouage completes the "Odyssey Collection" - inspired by nature and the mystical aura of Jebel Shams.

At 3,009 meters, Jebel Shams is the highest mountain in Oman and dominates the rugged landscape of the Hajar Mountains. Surrounded by centuries-old juniper trees and dense fog, Amouages creative director Renaud Salmon found the inspiration for the two creations here: While "Decision" translates the moment of sudden clarity olfactorily, "Existence" is intended to convey a gentle, dreamy atmosphere.

It was an experience that I can't even begin to put into words. I knew I was connected to the earth, and yet I felt like I was floating... By the time I made the return journey, I was absolutely certain of one thing: my experience had to be expressed somehow as a perfume creation for Amouage.

Developed in collaboration with perfumer Quentin Bisch, the two fragrances complete the "Odyssey" collection, which includes popular creations such as "Meander", "Ashore", "Boundless" and "Purpose" .

Decision - The moment of clarity

A moment in time when you are struck by a force beyond your control, but the decision to endure and transform becomes your own. This moment of enlightenment brought "Decision" to life.

Amouage

With an oil concentration of 33 percent, "Decision" is inspired by the hardy juniper trees of the Jebel Shams. These trees defy even the most violent thunderstorms: Lightning cracks and petrifies their bark, while their sap turns to steam. Legend has it that they carry a mystical power.

"Decision" is intended to stand for the moment when a sudden realization brings light into the darkness - an interplay between determination and open possibilities. 

The composition begins with tangy bergamot and spicy cardamom, accompanied by the warm spiciness of pink pepper. Balsamic myrrh and smoky incense unfold in the heart, while juniper berry sets the tone with cool, aromatic nuances. The base anchors the fragrance with the earthy warmth of Atlas cedar and patchouli, rounded off with a creamy vanilla note.

Existence - Between reality and illusion

If "Decision" is a sharp ray of enlightenment, then "Existence" is the total absence of lines, edges or angles: a space in which the notion of material territories is non-existent. 

Amouage

The idea for "Existence" was born when Renaud Salmon climbed Jebel Shams and a sea of clouds shrouded the landscape in thick fog. With an oil concentration of 20 percent, the fragrance unfolds a gentle and soft note, but gains depth through incense - a fragrant interpretation of infinity and serenity.

The top note opens with the delicate freshness of lily of the valley, which meets the floral grace of rose petals. The gentle, floral bouquet then transitions into a sensual heart note of labdanum and incense. Enhanced by Mystikal®, a spicy warmth unfolds, further deepening the fragrance. In the base, a warm, sweet accord of ambergris and benzoin merges with the powdery facets of white musk, bringing the creation to a soft close.
