Lemongrass Symphony
A very fitting scent for one of my favorite cities. The lemongrass dominates from the start and goes strong, keeping company to the tropical florals, even dominating them a bit. The clary sage is pert and assertive, making her entrance on a drop of bergamot. The orris butter is soft and creamy, giving a slight purple hue to the composition. But the overall impression is unmistakably a high end Thai spa scent, a jasmine-lemongrass symphony. Delicate, fresh without being banal, a beautiful unisex scent perfect for a cleanly pressed white linen suit to wear on a hot summer day.

You can try this at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok or order online from their site.

Elegant leather spiced with a boozy saffron
This leather exceeded my expectations and made me appreciate what a talented perfumer can achieve even with notes that I generally tend to avoid, like saffron and animalic accords. The apple brandy in the opening is so elegant and discreetly lady-like, almost like being sipped from dainty, small porcelain cups. And the saffron, a note I generally keep my distance from, here feels right and natural, as though this is exactly what the brandy called for: a few threads of saffron and a squirt of citrus.

Personally, I sense the leather from the very beginning and throughout the composition. It`s a soft leather, never displaying overly masculine, harsh edges. Yet I can imagine a man not feeling intimidated by this one, as it could easily read in either direction of that spectrum. The myrrh is not overly sweet, no Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense vibes here. The cinnamon bark and florals are superb, the geranium adding a soft, minty, herbal quality. Overture Woman is not a biker gal, she`s far too delicate for that. It`s more like the baby skin soft leather of a luxe coat, one that is worn over an evening gown to a gala event. Amazing performance, in terms of silage and longevity.

Modern take on aldehydes and florals
If I had to sum up Dia Woman Eau de Parfum in a few words, it would be a modern take on a classic bouquet of florals sprinkled with aldehydes. She feels old school classic, soapy clean, but updated to a contemporary version of itself. No matter how many times I wore it, my nose zooms in to the white musk with heliotrope. Are there roses, figs, iris, peonies, etc. in there? Maybe. Can`t say that I've personally ran into any of them on the many occasions Dia Woman Eau de Parfum and I intersected. Is she a beautiful scent worthy of an Omani royal? Maybe. It's beautiful, for sure, but I`m picky about my aldehydes and in here the elegance just seems a bit too fancy for a T-shirt+jeans kind of woman like myself. It also disappears rather quickly from my skin, but I do have a skin that just eats most scents.

Pretty, clean and totally forgettable florals
Probably one of the prettier freesias out there floating in a cucumber water flower arrangement next to a couple of magnolia and jasmine blossoms. The cucumber water reminds me of those 90's Calgon or Victoria's Secret body sprays. Then the white musk takes over and you get this Nivea lotion feel: powdery, comforting, yet very common place for a perfume with that price tag.

Sweet, balsamic jasmine
Ah, Amouage just makes me wanna work harder so I can afford their jasmine concoctions! Damn you, Amouage! I still prefer the jasmine in Ashore, which is a spectacular marine jasmine-ambergris combination. But the balsamic sweetness of the jasmine in Portrayal Woman also calls out to me. I tend to avoid sweet, heady scents in really warm weather, but there's something that feels "right" about wearing this one at the height of summer. It might be because I am in a place surrounded by lovely women from the Middle East who exude similar aromas while moving from left to right in their finery, but I've also worn this to grab a bite at the night markets, and it didn't feel out of place there, either.

The elemi just adds a hint of bubblegummy silliness to the proceedings, making the fragrance seem youthful and lighthearted. It actually does remind me of a bubblegum I used to love when I was a kid, something improbably pink made in Turkey. I don't get a strong sense for the tobacco more than as a touch of bitterness tempering the vanilla and the overall sweetness. A lovely scent with incredible projection and longevity. A round of applause for the brand for creating such lovely, mothball-free white florals!
