Romantic and contemplative white florals
Portrayal Woman is composed of voluptuous jasmine and tuberose combined with just a hint of vanilla, a little toasty woodiness, and an airy elemi resin. It is beautiful but quite simple. Compared to other Amouage women's perfumes featuring white florals, Portrayal Woman is maybe a touch more grown up than the exuberant gourmand-adjacent Love Tuberose, a little more romantic and contemplative than Ashore with its bracing saltiness, and less interesting than Honour 43 or Figment Woman.

Jasmine dripping in amber
Portrayal woman is way better than I even thought it could be. I will say if you dislike Jasmine, this will not be for you. The opening is all about Jasmine. It’s as if one buried their nose into the flower and the sticky pollen got on their nose. It’s big, syrupy and round.
Right behind the narcotic Jasmine is what smells like cola or root beer to me. I think it’s the vanilla and craven tobacco. After a few hours the Jasmine fades into the background and what’s left is a delicious resinous tobacco with nuances of jasmine.
This is an outstanding fragrance that seems to be underrated.
It leans fem to me but it’s def unisex.

overwhelming as always with Amouage
balsamic, extremely peppery, and heavily resinous with an overpowering dose of heady jasmine and sweetly rich tobacco. Everything about this is so overwhelming, the jasmine so ridiculously indulgent and heavy and stuffy, the tobacco dense, the resins sharp and prickly. Just a lot going on in too high doses and the typical overly perfumey undertone Amouage tends to do often

The Invisible Third
Since I missed the last sharings of "Love Tuberose," I dove headfirst into the sharing of "Portrayal." As soon as the 10ml reservation was out, I read the fragrance notes for the first time and immediately got a preventive headache. Oh my God - Jasmine. Phew - and Tobacco WITH Jasmine. Oh dear** - Elemi resin!
I regularly fill our home with my Arabic incense burners and have small packages of incense resin sent to me from Morocco, behind whose sonorous names lies one or another surprise. And I had already been hit hard by the full blast of Elemi resin: herbal, piercing, medicinal, green-stinky, strange, so strange that I poured the resin along with the burning coal into the toilet in horror within a minute. Elemi oil was used by the ancient Egyptians for embalming, and Elemi resin is still used today for incense against pests, which seems absolutely logical to me given the smell.

Pale with dread, I watched as the sharing slowly filled up and opened the Parfumo page every morning first in the hope that someone would leave a fragrance description that would calm my nerves.
Amouage then appeared with their statement like the shining archangel himself and dried my fear sweat: "Clean-floral-fresh-laundry scent." That changed EVERYTHING. From "deeply saddened," my mood swung to breathlessly excited anticipation.
In my beloved "Bracken," there are hints that show that AMOUAGE can also do softener and fresh. The Jasmine and Vanilla gave hope that the stone-cold, absurd freshness of "Bracken" could be translated into something more socially acceptable.

I've never transferred money with so much enthusiasm! And then I waited....and waited...and then it was HERE!
A thousand thanks to the lovely IrinaBerlin for this great opportunity! A revelation! With Amouage, I tend to sweeten the scents a little for myself - with "Portrayal," everything fit from the very first moment.
For me, it's not a scent that you have to get used to as a wearer, but it seems to be a scent that others around you need to get used to. My "scent observers" only started to exclaim delight after a few days. Since I tend to suffer from too much self-confidence, I looked at them indulgently like little, silly children and patted myself on the back from all sides to admire my incomparable taste.

The Jasmine in the top note has a hint of radiant Acacia blossom. Vanilla smooths the scent and is not individually detectable, just as the Tobacco only serves as a framework.
A bright, muted sweetness seems to me like a hint that Amouage is simply withholding fragrance notes here: in the top note, there are components that can also be found in the complex "Vepres Siciliennes": Magnolia? Oak moss? Perhaps the Elemi resin plays various roles here, as it can be very multifaceted: woody, lemony-tacky, dull-green, refreshing, with facets of fennel.

All of this lifts the scent far out of the little girl corner, and from the age of 20, it appears ageless. Feminine is ultimately the more beautiful word for ladylike.
It is also worth highlighting positively: if you accidentally douse yourself with the scent out of enthusiasm, it does not cause choking fits; the sillage remains consistent, strong and enduring, yet without burning eyes and scent tinnitus.

“Portrayal” plays here with expectations at a high level: it is definitely NOT what you expected and very much of what you HOPE for from ANY perfume!

The Representation
I am being completely honest, I haven't really warmed up to Amouage fragrances until now, but one scent has absolutely blown me away - Portrayal. At first, you are overwhelmed by the jasmine; I find it delightful since I love jasmine. The jasmine note remains - period, but it becomes weaker and softer, almost tender, I would say. A dear friend remarked that this fragrance smells very noble, expensive, and exquisite. However, that only happens after about two hours, then everything settles, and the vanilla and the fine aroma of an incredibly good oriental tobacco blend in. It reminds me of films from the 1920s and 30s where wealthy ladies, dressed in their elegant clothing and wearing a particularly feminine scent, entered the opium dens to indulge themselves. This image comes to mind without any negative connotation, rather noble - decadent and mysterious. This very exclusive fine scent is unusual, stands out absolutely in the fragrance market, and lasts incredibly long, actually throughout the entire day. For me, the scent personifies femininity - soft, powerful, longing, but also so tender. The bottle is a little treasure, intriguing, perhaps a bit psychedelic in color, making you want to look at it all the time. The price is, like all Amouage fragrances, costly, but given the longevity and the quality of the scent and the bottle, it is absolutely worth it. This fragrance has made its way into my collection, and I find myself reaching for it more and more often - could this be a deeper love???

Wonderful jasmine tobacco duo!.Always keeps something behind the scent: a feeling a light undertone, a friendly vanilla maybe?

Dense, rich, narcotic jasmine. The craven tobacco with elemi and vanilla smells like creamy amber cola. For femme fatals only

Underappreciated feminine Amouge gem; woody tobacco spiced, criminally smooth semi-dry/semi-sweet white florals + inexplicable fatty finish.

Gorgeous, sexy, creamy, smoky Jasmine, one of the most special white floral in my collection. Don't judge in based of the opening, wait.

What does this remind you of? I get massive 80s/90s floriental vibes - gorgeous but I have smelled this before, definitely, somewhere.

I thought I’d love this, but it’s a no way for me. A sickening Jasmine with overpowering honey and tobacco. Gave me an instant migraine
