Matcha at last
I am a big matcha fan.
I love matcha as a flavor in anything where you have the option to choose a matcha flavor. So why not also smell like matcha, I thought?

So off we went on our journey.

Blue Matcha from Montale? Somehow not really as matcha-like as I had hoped. Too bad
Le Matcha from LeLabo? Somehow not really as matcha-like as I had hoped. Too bad
Matcha & Fragipani from 4711? Somehow not really as matcha-like as I had hoped. PITY

All right, on to the next fragrance, Matcha Meditation by Maison Margela with a stable 6.6 rating on Parfumo, great. Somehow not really STOP. It smells just as matcha-like as I had hoped - YAY!!!

I don't quite know why the reviews for the fragrance are so bad. Joa it's very sweet, but I always add a tablespoon of sugar to my matcha. Maison Margela has also used this unhealthy but delicious insider tip here. This really just smells like a sweet matcha latte to me.

Perhaps the rating can be explained by the fact that the fragrance itself is perhaps not as high-quality and well-balanced as the LeLabo interpretation, but it is exactly what I was looking for.

A sweet matcha fragrance - yay!

The mouse trap
First of all: I think Jo Malone fragrances always smell pleasant and good. You get what it says on the tin in good to very good quality and I think the bottles are actually quite chic.

Personally, however, I have found that you can more or less forget about the beautiful fragrances because almost all Jo Malone fragrances have the absolute worst shelf life that money can buy.

I see people here getting upset about the longevity of Tom Ford summer fragrances that (for admittedly ridiculous prices) only last for a few hours.

Jo Malone and this fragrance take it to a new level. The longevity (at least for me) is just under an hour. I have a perfume that costs over 100 euros and doesn't even last an hour. Well hallelujah.

Does Wood Sage & Sea Salt smell good? Absolutely. It's one of the best summer fragrances I know. Unfortunately, nobody really notices it apart from me because (I have to repeat myself) IT IS NO LONGER THERE AFTER NOT EVEN ONE HOUR.

The fragrance is placed in Douglas stores like a mouse trap.
Unknowing customers read the name and are interested. WOW, a dreamy, soft and unique aquat. You can't go wrong with that!

The bait snaps shut.

The shelf life was just enough to get you to the checkout. Once home, you gradually realize why all my friends haven't already bought this fragrance.

Well, I can't smell anything anymore. Maybe my nose is closed. Maybe I just need to spray more. Maybe it's just me who doesn't notice it anymore. Maybe I need to try it out in the warm weather.
Maybe Douglas could have added a consumer warning. Maybe I should have checked online. Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe I'm just crying after my 140 euros. Maybe many people don't care and buy it anyway. You never know.

In a nutshell: Great fragrance, but I personally can't justify such a poor performance beyond 100 euros.

Can it be worth it?
A fresh fragrance for over 200 euros? Can it be worth it?

The answer to this question for me is actually always: No. Most of the fresh niche fragrances I know are ultimately nice designer fragrances in Louis Vuitton/Tom Ford packaging and the price tag that goes with it. Maybe I'm just not an expert, but for me most fresh fragrances smell nice and pleasant, I don't notice any big differences in quality.

Afternoon Swim is the first expensive freshie where my reaction after smelling it was not: "nice and pleasant", but "oh, they'll gladly take all my money, Mr. Vuitton".

For me, this smells so incredibly high-quality that I could hardly believe it the first time I smelled it. Nothing stands out. The individual citrusy notes combine to create an incredibly soft overall scent. I can't smell a single note, I can only marvel at how everything here synergizes into what is probably the most expensive freshie I will ever buy. Cooling, soft citrus at the very highest level. Nothing new, but familiar in a quality that in my opinion really does justice to the price.

In the end, everyone has to know for themselves whether a 40 Euro Freshie, which will fulfill roughly the same purpose, is not the financially cleverer solution. However, I recommend everyone to try the fragrance at least once to see what is possible in terms of quality.
