And it turned out to be an expensive midsummer night's dream!
Some time ago, the question as to which fragrance could be used to venture into the world of ROJA passed by here in the Ticker.
After well-known names such as "Amber Aoud (Parfum) | Roja Parfums" and "Enigma pour Homme / Creation-E pour Homme (Parfum) | Roja Parfums" were immediately mentioned, the question also came up for me: What did I actually start with?

My ad-hoc answer to the question would have been "Apex (Eau de Parfum) | Roja Parfums". But the correct answer should have been: "A Midsummer Dream | Roja Parfums"
And so it is that I am sitting here on an icy cold winter's night and want to write a short review of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Yes, my first ROJA bottle was the "A Midsummer Dream | Roja Parfums". It was also my introduction to the world of this enigmatic, somewhat over-excited and yet absolutely controlled genius, Roger Bird.

It all started with a small bottle that I had to smell again and again. I had never smelled anything like it before (although I had been in the niche world for some time). At the time, the seemingly gigantic fragrance pyramid explained to me why I can hardly really specify a fragrance note. And to be honest, I still feel the same way today.

In order not to go through all the individual pyramid elements now, I would like to focus on two things:

1. The effect:
I admit it, I'm still addicted to this brew. The complexity, intricacy and uniqueness is really impressive. But: I have also noticed that there are days when it is really jinxed. That's when I loathe this fragrance. Some describe it here as the "granny effect", or even the "insect repellent". Something in the fragrance can be extremely annoying in certain situations. And yet the stuff is brilliant.

2. The comparison with "Madison pour Homme | Roja Parfums"
From today's perspective, I have to say that "Madison pour Homme | Roja Parfums" is an unmistakable relative of "A Midsummer Dream | Roja Parfums". If you have smelled a large part of the ROJA range, this is not at all surprising. With a hell of a lot of fragrances, it seems as if Roger Bird is always helping himself to his own portfolio - which is absolutely OK from my point of view. Even elements of the outrageously expensive ROJA can be found in many other creations - and vice versa.

If I could only keep one of the two, it would definitely be the Madison. It's a little warmer, more masculine and, of course, a little deeper and more persistent due to the concentration.

*

I see "A Midsummer Dream | Roja Parfums" more on male wearers, which perhaps also explains why so few ladies own this fragrance. Is the fragrance wearable at all due to its complexity? Definitely!

Make sure you get a bottle of this great fragrance. It has a nice and somehow fitting theme story, is a great introduction to the actually rather classically oriented Roja world and allows a glimpse into ROJA's complex fragrance fantasies without being directly overwhelmed by the chyphrehammer.

... too hot to handle ...?
Okay, so at this point a small admission: Kilian was until then by and large foreign to me. A free addition of the "Rolling in Love" was the first contact to the fragrance house - and it followed first perplexity.

"Rolling in Love | Kilian" I actually liked, so that I dared some time later, in the perfumery to dare a look at the Kilian shelf.
There I learned that Kilian arranges its fragrance creations in fragrance families and assigns the respective members of a category a corresponding color or in the case of the Liquors just also filled in special flacons.

As the name already suggests, "Smoking Hot | Kilian" belongs to the "The Smokes".

Kilian wrote himself to the fragrance:

"There is not one way of being hot. Maybe you are good, maybe you are bad. Maybe you are better when you are bad... Maybe you like to be you, or a different version of yourself. At night, there are no rules but one, just be Smoking Hot!" - Kilian Hennessy

-

Creator of the creation is Mathieu Nardin. In addition to this, he is, for example, the nose behind the famous "ManRose | Etro" and "XJ 1861 Zefiro | XerJoff".

Further it says on the website:

"Evoking everything from European clubs to Eastern hookah lounges, Smoking Hot redefines what a smokey scent is today, going almost where it's too hot to handle."

Obviously, with "Smoking Hot | Kilian" you want to create a modern, smoky DNA without the classic incense.... And. this part of the mission has definitely succeeded!

-

My impression of the fragrance:

Especially after spraying on, there is an entertaining, exciting development to sniff. Please do not stone me for the following classification of the events in visualized form:

A wild, cinnamon-y apple briefly tries the baked apple, but burns within a very short time in a tobacco embers. There it lies now, the burned apple on half charred tobacco leaves, the embers in the meantime smothered. To drown out the consequences of this mishap, Mathieu now throws in vanilla essence and amber notes. The emerging sweetish warmth actually saves the mishap. Out comes the overall picture, which Kilian probably also called Shisha.

I had at my first test at the beginning quite strong licorice associations. In the course resulted subjectively again and again the smell of these Haribo "Jelly Berries". Only after I had really dealt with the individual notes and the course, this image read after.

-

Artistically, "Smoking Hot | Kilian" is a really well implemented fragrance. I also like to sniff my wrist, but it is followed by the realization: I do not want to smell like that.

Speaking of which, who actually wants to smell like shisha?

Good question, but I would cliché the fragrance actually most likely to see or want to smell younger gentlemen.

I like that the fragrance does not come with a brute sillage. That could become namely extraordinarily exhausting.

-

As a classic lark, non-smoker and party pooper, I will probably not be tempted to test Smoking Hot in its species-appropriate environment. But who does, I wish you already a lot of fun with this extraordinary creation.
