Why do we associate orange with summer?

Of course there are different varieties but most of them are ready during the colder months of the year, yet the note (with other winter citruses) is perceived as summery. Is it because the note is very fleeting and doesn't reach the depth usually required from wintery perfumes? Does anybody know of fragrances for the colder months that use orange as a prominent note?

I am very new to the world of fragrances, so it could very well be that it is just an impression led by ignorance. Thanks to anyone who will share their thoughts!

For me orange is all year round fragrances, I actually like this note a lot, but I’m also specific about how it’s used, like I don’t want to smell like orange juice, more like orange zest !

For winter I would say Orange x Santal a woody orange quite festive

And for summer I’m actually more of a lemon girl, but Bel Oranger has recently triggered my interest, it’s like a fresh hug from an orange peel, really weird image I concede but somehow that’s how I perceived it ! It has woods also in the base notes so this is probably why I find it more cozy .

Those two a very orange-centered, and have woods to ground the fragrances, but chemically you cannot do much when notes inspired by agrumes are fleeting by nature, so often you will find more fragrance with oranges as a support notes like in :

Like This , a spicy orangey pumpkin fragrance perfect for autumn

Fleuve Tendre and Âme du Cœur

Hope you find something to your liking !

Very curious about Like This, Fleuve Tendre and Orange x Santal, I'll try to see if I can find them somewhere near me. I definitely prefer the orange note to be more bitter and natural, instead of the more sweet juicy-like scents that are more common. Thanks!

Just think of the oranges with cloves that people hang in their homes during Christmas time Smile Orange is certainly not only for summer. It just depends on what they're blended with. Also Neroli is very often used in more wintery scents.

In my mind I associate it with warm weather, spring/summer but I would wear it “off season” if I wanted to because, why not?

For me it's an all year round note also. It's nice and refreshing during the hot season but uplifting during the cold season. Sweet and spicy oranges also remind me of Christmas.

I can't vote because there is no "all year round" option which is what I'd vote for. Terre d'Hermès Eau de Toilette comes to mind which has a beautiful orange note. I wear it year round.

@Smirky Completely agree, I also couldn't vote because there wasn't any all year round option.

Orange is the fruit in the xmas stocking! Of course it's for winter. I crave oranges in the winter, when other fruits are not available in the garden or in the store. Oranges, apples, and bananas are available year round fresh, but other fruits only exist right now as jelly or liqueur. Summer is for peaches and figs and apricots and plums. Fall is for grapes and berries. Orange is for winter!
