What is more important for you - the bottle design or the perfume itself?

Smell? While I do enjoy a great bottle design when it's a bonus that comes together with my smell purchase, what it looks like begins to matter at all only if the smell itself is good. Otherwise I couldn't care less.

Definitely smell but design is important too. It would take an amazing scent to make me buy a bottle that I hate

I am a creator myself, and I could say that if I saw an incredible bottle but didn't like the smell I would buy it anyway 😂.  But I never found a bottle I wanted. So, I did it myself  Smile) But, I can say that the smell is really important, of course.

I think if I was asked this when I owned my art website it would have been the bottle swaying me if there was something I saw that I thought would make for a good art project, but now i definitely pick smell first as I don’t do as much art these days and I am always looking for the next scent that excites me as when I first started collecting fragrances. I am essentially collecting scents over bottles.

I do however think that when spending over a certain amount of money that brands should put some effort in to making their bottles look nice.  Yes I do love a good looking bottle 😁

I also think that the functionality of a bottle is important, for example the atomisers, magnetic cap and pressurised bottles, but I think you are meaning aesthetics over function.

The point is, that it has to be functional and convenient! Of course! I love vintage style and I love functionality! I vote for refillable bottles to not throwing away the empty ones.

And! One more important question:  what would you buy:  A scent which is typical, the bottle has some design elements of plastic - for $400, but the brand is famous, or hand made glass design bottle with an interesting scent for $250, but the brand is small and unknown?

My favorite perfumes happen to have simple bottles. That is fine by me.

I do think, however, if I loved a perfume with an exceptionally ugly bottle design, that would piss me off!

Examples of perfume I am grateful to have little to no interest in:

Terror

Zombie for Her

Unicorn Milkshake

Have you ever tried Avon perfumes in those strange bottles? Smile

For me, smell is more important than bottle design. Ideal for me would be to have a great fragrance in a sleek, square/rectangular bottle.

I understand that some bottles can be a work of art -like some of Guerlain bottles for example- but I would not buy a perfumes just because of the beautiful bottle design if I don´t like the smell. On the contrary, I admit that sometimes, bottles that are way too ornate or glitzy even put me off.

I have bought many fragrances that I love but dislike the bottle. I would never buy a beautiful bottle if I dislike the fragrance. So yes, the smell is much more important for me. Of course if the bottle is absolutely gorgeous it makes me want to test the fragrance but I won't buy it if I don't like how it smells. If it's a cheapie and I love the bottle, I might blind buy it, but I would never blind buy an expensive fragrance based on the bottle design only. So a beautiful bottle is definitely a good bonus but the smell is what matters most.

The fragrance. Design can cause me to pass a fragrance by without testing it. It won't cause me to make the purchase.

I will never buy a pretty bottle if I dislike the scent, but I will most likely buy an ugly bottle if I like the scent, apart from some exceptions.
That's nice if the bottle is pretty tho but well... I own several fragrances from Maison Tahité and they look like pharmaceutical products. 😅
