The bitterness in chypres
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...EvitaVillaIt's an interesting topic. I'm agree with you, chypres are bitter and you skin is not guilty, especially since you smell that bitterness on your clothes. The one chypre I find especially bitter is Miss Dior (Eau de Toilette Originale)Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale , but for me it's ok.It might be simply a question of personal taste. Some people doesn't like Campari even they like orange, or Pastis even they like anise, because they are bitter beverages.I would be glad to read other opinions on that bitter topic!Hi, thanks for your response. Oh that's funny, because Miss Dior Originale is one of the few chypres that does not have that effect on me! (although I don't love my latest purchase of that, from april 2023 says the batchcode, as much as my former bottle, but that is not about bitterness). I have most problems with Jean-Louis Scherrer (Eau de Toilette)Jean-Louis Scherrer Eau de Toilette and Azurēe (2015)Azurēe (2015) which I find so, so very beautyful and so bright (opposite of bitter) in their opening....bet then that drydown...Maybe you find galbanum bitter and with me it is more the oakmoss?

The bitterness in chypres
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...I have a question: I love the opening of many chypres, but most of them turn out very bitter on my skin and not in a good way, but in a rancid sort of way. I don't know if it is my skinchemistry or my perception of scents (because when I spray it on clothes, I also get this bitterness in the drydown and my boyfriend does not smell this bitterness). It's kind of frustrating to love a scent and then feel disappointed, smelling that bad kind of bitterness. I also wonder what note this could be. I guess it's oakmoss, but I also have perfumes with oakmoss that do not have this affect on me. Does anyone recognize this and what could it be???

Do you store your frag in the box?
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...Yes I do. Not only because it's better for the perfume, but also in case I don't use it that often and am thinking of giving it to someone else who does like it more than I do. It's nicer, I think, to get (and to give) a perfume in it's box 😉.

Scent of the Day
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...Miss Dior (Eau de Toilette Originale)Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale I proudly listed her as my signature this afternoon 🙂.Oh dear, My previous - 10 year old - bottle was empty and today I wore a new bottle which is from april 2023...I'm afraid it is reformulated. Very different experience. I don't mind reformulations because they are often done for a good cause, but in this case it's a shame the perfume is not that lovely anymore (or I may have gotten a fake, ordered it online). So now L'air du Temps is back as my signature 🙂. Also lovely!

How much time do you take before you post a review?
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...Thanks everyone for your replies!! And it's true that one can update his or her review, had to do that a few times already, but I'm always afraid people may find that annoying🤔.

How much time do you take before you post a review?
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...I've noticed (and have to admit) that I sometimes write a review too soon after testing or buying a perfume...I sometimes have to come back on it and change or delete my initial review. So I've learned not to write one too soon and now I'm curious about how long you wait before you judge a scent.Love, Ringtale

Fresh , Green Parfum for men ?
by Ringtale | Perfume Recommendations
...Like Mixal, I would recomment Vetiver (Eau de Toilette)Vetiver Eau de Toilette. It's classy and fresh in a unique way, not like the mainsteam aquatics, more herbal and 'grown up' (but not 'old men'). Longlasting and with a decent and pleasent, but noticeable sillage. And Allure Homme (Eau de Toilette)Allure Homme Eau de Toilette I smelled something 'minty' in it...

How do you recognise the smell of musk?
...Natural musk comes from male animals (from their glands) so there you'll have that animalic vibe to some musk scents, you may percieve that as the scent of warm and intimate skin. Synthetic or vegetable musk will smell more like well groomed skin. So one musk may be percieved as sweaty or 'stinky', the other may smell 'clean'....

Help identifying mystery note I dislike
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...ScentNebulaSatagoCould be the quality of the fragrance in itself. I always find that cheaper perfumes have that perfumey quality to them, that makes it unbearable to my nose. I don't know what it is, maybe some aromachemicals? But yeah, it smells like a department store: very musky, aldehydic, screechy. For your grandma's scent, I would say it maybe is the aldehydes/musk? I don't think so cause I have other perfumes with aldehydes and musks that don't smell that way to me. It's not actually an unpleasant smell, it's just not to my taste (reminds me too much of grandma lol)I've heard some people say that iris smells like lipstick/makeup products, I suppose it's a little bit like that? I had to think of Iris too, but it is not listed in your perfume. Iris can turn out very powdery and sweet indeed, but can sometimes also smell more 'cold' like a sheet of white paper...And I think you are right about aldehydes, I don't percieve those as 'perfume-y' either, more like 'soapy' :-)

Help identifying mystery note I dislike
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...Hi,We all have different views on 'what smells perfume-y' I think, but - with perfumey - I always think of a little more sweet and powdery. In that case, it could well be the Cardamom which is sweet and spicy. Violet leaf is more green and herbal. But I don't think the scent your grandma wore and which reminds you of a more 'perfume-y' kind of perfume, would have been Chanel No5...I don't percieve that as perfume-y, it's more aldehydic ( but again: that may be personal :-) ). But she could have worn something else with Cardamom in it, that- as well as other, more sweet and 'spicy' notes- is in many (also vintage) perfumes.

Cinnamon focused (feminine or unisex)
...Oh, funny, I can smell the cinnamon in the drydown, but that may be because I have no other perfumes with cinnamon as a note....it stands out to me more because of that, I think.... :-)

winter wedding perfume for bride
by Ringtale | Perfume Recommendations
...Congratulations!! I think L'Air du Temps (Eau de Parfum)L'Air du Temps Eau de Parfum will be great for any wedding in any season. If you don't mind a little vintage style that is...:-) It is such a happy perfume with lovely whiffs of carnation you will get throughout the day. I highly recommend the EDP over the EDT. Can be found online only. In the same style, but a bit more modern and with less longevity and sillage: Fidji (2003) (Eau de Toilette)Fidji (2003) Eau de Toilette Private Collection (Eau de Parfum)Private Collection Eau de Parfum (now available as Eau de Private Collection, but they don't differ much). If you are into 'green' and 'floral' that is. It is very 'spring and summer-like' but I think it can well be worn in Winter as well. It is uplifting.Samsara (Eau de Parfum)Samsara Eau de Parfum will leave a more sandalwoody, but lovely, clean and mesmerizing trail if used light handed, using it light handed (one modest spray on chest and one in the crook of both arms is enough), really is the secret of this beauty.Have a happy time!!

Spraying perfume on clothing that lingers for days
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...Hi,Even when I don't spray on clothes and let it dry before dressing, my clothes will smell of my perfume.I  think there is a difference concerning the material of the clothing, on some materials perfumes last longer and perform differently than on others...But if I want to wear the same garment next day, but want to wear another fragrance, I will wash it, just to be sure. I quite frequently wash my jackets too....I don't put away my sweaters in my closet often after wearing them, because then my closet may smell of all different perfumes....

What is your favorite creamy Sandalwood fragrance?
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...Samsara (Eau de Parfum)Samsara Eau de Parfum to me is very creamy and (sandal)woody. Some find it powdery as well, but I find it more creamy. Older versions were a bit 'thicker' on the sandalwood I think (maybe one could say: 'it used to be a cream and now it is a lotion'), but this latest version, I find just perfect!
