Luxurious Suede in Quince Syrup
Upon spraying Galop d'Hermès, the three main player of the fragrance - quince, rose and suede - gallop towards my nose right away. The quince exudes its rosy, ripe pear-like succulence, enhancing the delicate, honeyed sweetness of pink rose petals. The suede employed here, like previous reviewers mentioned, reminds me of the same plush, slightly cumin-tinted suede note in Cuir d'Ange too, with its supple texture occasionally evoking turkish delight along with the tender sweetness of rose and fruits.

Galop is overall linear during its 8-hour longevity on my skin, with these three main notes rotating in and out from time to time and the vegetal muskiness becoming more noticeable about 3 hours in. The osmanthus and saffron sit at the intersection of fruity quince, spicy rose and suede, and they behave more like extension and overlap of these notes among themselves. The sillage is mostly moderate.

Compared to the Hermès fragrances released during Jean-Claude Ellena's tenure, Galop d'Hermès immediately feels richer and more saturated in colour. But at the same time, it's still lightweight enough to fit into the modern Hermès sensibility.

This continuation in style (relatively transparent aesthetics) with a more personal touch (with a more saturated palette) is promising in theory. However, certain aspects of Galop's execution left much to be desired for me. The main culprit is the syrupiness of the fruity note, which at times largely overshadows the rose and the excellent suede note. Moreover, when the tanned aspect of suede is mixed with the strong sugary fruity sweetness, it renders the fruity note somewhat more synthetic, which is not in accord with the luxurious image and price tag of Galop.

With its large portion of sweet, frivolous fruity note providing an easier entry point, Galop would have made an excellent choice for those who enjoy fruity floral gourmand in general and would like to start the exploration of leather/suede note in perfumery. However, with its limited distribution and high price tag, I'd hesitate to recommend it over other more available options on the market.

Dominatrix Rose.
She enters the coffee shop, lines up in the qeue, the corner of her black Prada bag hits his elbow. Mr. Wall Street turns around, arrogant, ready to have his say, but the Chanel-clad woman stares nonchalantly straight ahead. Indignant, he wants to get her attention, how dare she disturb this captain of industry? But something is holding him back and it's not even her completely neutral gaze above his head, nor her cold eyes that have failed to register his existence. It's something else, something familiar, a spark of shocked recognition, the rich, sumptuous scent of Spanish leather, roses and quince, the staccato sound of stilettos and the crack of a whip. Mr. Wall Street gives up his place in line and successful Dominatrix steps forward to order her coffee.

This is Galop: the emblem of quiet luxury, without excuses for its opulence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not my Hermes leather perfume
I didn't enjoy the wet fruity leather first stage at all, it smells just bad to my nose. And though the dry down is an elegant luxury soft rose leather, I like perfumes of which I can enjoy all the trip. I much prefer other leather perfumes of this very same house, which by the way fortunately, I don't find similar to this one.
I also find the price is too high for what you get in this case, if the concentration is that of extrait, I must say that in my opinion it doesn't perform better than most of eau de parfum offers. Though the bottle is a very good design.

A pity, I really expected to like it :(

The perfume that made me love perfumery.
This one is very special to me.

For my teenage self, it seemed very unusual, very original, very "adult". I had never smelled a leathery perfume, I didn't even know that leather perfumes existed. I was looking for my first Big Girl Scent, and for some reason, I picked this one. Looking back, it was quite a bold choice!

Almost ten years and many perfumes later, of course, I don't think it's as unusual or as original as I thought back then. However, it is still very mature and beautiful. I have a strong emotional attachment to it and it brings back many memories. If the Hermès salesperson hadn't been so sweet to tiny little teenager me that day, maybe I wouldn't be into perfume today!

It's a beautiful and elegant mix or rose and leather. Quite intense quince note too which makes it a little more out of the box. It definitely gives off a rich old lady vibes ! I'm always surprised to see that almost no one talks about this perfume. Hermès has huge hits and this one is definitely one of them, yet I don't think I've ever smelled it on a stranger.

I don't like it as much as I used to, but I still think it's a beautiful scent. I think it's just not my style anymore. A little too heavy, a little too "old"... It's pretty strong, so I think it's more suitable for winters or evenings. Very good staying power on me, especially on clothes.

8/10, both for the emotional value this holds and the great scent it has. It's a good one.

Clean leather smeared with a quince, rose, and osmanthus jam.
This is a restrained and elegant fragrance, like most from Hermès. The opening is tart and piquant, like taking a bite of quince cheese. The quince in this smells quite realistic. When I lived in Spain, I often ate quince cheese, called "dulce de membrillo", which you can spread over toasted bread, along with some manchego or farmer's cheese. Compared to the quince note in another fragrance that I own, Xerjoff's Dolce Amalfi, this is far truer to life, retains the sour quality of real quince, and takes a more prominent role in the composition. The initial mouth-puckering blast of quince immediately is mingled with a plush pink rose along with light wisps of saffron and a delicate buttress of osmanthus, which lends itself to the rendering of the fruit note and adds an ever-so-slightly exotic floral touch. Undergirding it all is the aforementioned clean, supple leather. The leather to me has a kind of "flow" or movement to it; in my mind, I can see an Hermès black calf leather jacket or bag folding delicately. Contrary to what some other reviewers have mentioned, this leather doesn't smell animalic or smoky to me at all. It is, in fact, one of the smoothest, cleanest, and most diaphanous (à la Hermès) leathers I've ever smelt. The image this evokes to me is of an elegant, professional woman, in her early to mid 30s, dressed impeccably in a black leather jacket, crisp white blouse, dark jeans, and perhaps a silk Hermès scarf. The time is mid-spring, somewhere in the Mediterranean (not sure if that's my own association but that's what I get) before the chill bite in the air has completely thawed but after the first trees have begun to push out white blooms and thick shocks of wildflowers have sprung up in the hills. There is a distance in this woman, an aloof air that has been adopted rather than arisen of its own will in her. Something inside of her still yearns for things to be as they were, but for the moment the frost that has settled on her remains unmelted, like the snows on the high mountains. There is no sensuality to this fragrance, despite the ostensible warmth of the notes. At its heart it is cold and inwardly drawn.

Because of this strong, crystal clear image I have in my mind when I smell Galop, it's not something I would wear as a man, though I do think that it is 100% unisex. Maybe it has been reformulated and previous batches were smokier, but even without the smoke, there's nothing in this that screams femininity per se. I find the performance to be lacking as well, despite the pure parfum concentration. This dies on my skin within about 3 hours, after which point it becomes sort of a vaguely musky blob. The opening is so beautiful and so unique, and any fragrance that can evoke such a pure image in my mind as this one can is no doubt class perfumery. Nevertheless, the exorbitant price, measly performance, and mental image it creates makes Galop a no go for me. Still, it's definitely worth a try. There's not quite anything else out there that smells like this, despite the "Smells Like" section declaring that this is just like Myrrhe Églantine. It's true that the rose note in Galop and the one in Myrrhe Églantine are related - that same pink, plush rose. But that's just about all that the two share. Their vibes are completely, wholly, totally different, and Myrrhe smells quite a bit like other fragrances. Not so with Galop.

Bristly rawhide and champagne. Addictive. So carnal and unique. I think it’s unisex but I see why it’s targeted feminine.

A unique take on a fruity leather that could've come from Lutens. Beautiful and unique. Weird bottle. A treasure.
