Whenever I see just one review of a fragrance, I feel almost compelled to test out whether the fragrance in question is blowing the same horn for me or whether it is behaving in a contrary way and I have to "rush to the rescue" if my initial tasting is not too positive. Just like in a good debating society, where both sides are given the space to put forward their arguments so that they can then form their own opinions. Yes, of course, the comparison is a bit off (skin chemistry and personal preferences and all that) but somehow I have to justify my crusade for Miller Harris :)
In @Meggi's beautiful first review, "Wander Through The Parks | Miller Harris" came off so semi-well, at least we both agree right at the start: it's good! I have a fresh, sour grapefruit, ah grapefruit, never mind, with a good load of pepper in my nose and would even have blindly identified basil or similar herbs. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I was smelling one of the dozen Acqua di Parma versions, it's so green and citrusy and fresh. Please don't be confused by the 'fruity' in the fragrance notes. After all, grapefruit is also a fruit. But sweet-fruity is nothing at all, at least for me.
All the MH fragrances I have tested so far are not silage monsters. Which is absolutely fine with me!
There is no sign of the yellowish, withered parkland with a hint of rotten fruit in my home. Rather a green English lawn, perfectly trimmed with nail scissors, at the edge of which someone has planted a bed of Mediterranean herbs and a few white flowers. On a wooden bench, a woman wraps herself in a white fleece blanket (it's only May, so the wind is still a bit fresh) - anyone remember the final scene in the movie 'Notting Hill'? Exactly like that! Sipping the ice-cold, home-made orange soda (the kind that was poured over my shirt at the beginning), I enjoy the play of light falling through the leaves of the trees. Oh that was something, I'm not Julia Roberts.
I don't smell fig, nor tuberose (*irks*) - let's agree on a delicate white, indefinable creamy note. Towards the end, the fragrance becomes a bit more feminine in my eyes thanks to the all-time favorite musk/cashmere duo, but it's basically a great fresh unisex perfume. When the trees turn green in April/May and the whole of nature explodes (let's ignore the stupid pollen) - the note is perfectly captured here.
Green freshies only have one glaring disadvantage: they don't usually last very well/long. Even galbanum and the musk/woody bag of tricks don't help much. After 3-4 hours I have to look for the scent on my skin, on clothes - as almost always - better. But since I like to wear this type of perfume in spring/summer anyway, I'm willing to forgive this lack of performance, as it is also wearable in warmer weather.
PS: And while we're on the subject of London park tips: I recommend Battersea Park south of the Thames. Good Omen fans will even recognize a filming location from the first season there ('the bandstand')
