A fragrance with vanilla in the base and I - the number one vanilla hater - find it good! Sappalot and thunder, how could this happen... hell must be freezing over. Maybe it’s because the terrible pod doesn’t assert itself in terms of scent, even though it’s listed?
But let’s start from the beginning. After my recent love-at-first-sniff experience with "Celadon | Miller Harris," it suddenly struck me that I still have four other samples from the house lying around here. And my - positive - experience with Sisley has shown that when brands manage to create 1-2 really good unisex fragrances, the rest is often quite decent too. No pressure :)
Being a design victim, I liked the bottle (simple, elegant, minimalist) and neither the dreaded "sweet" nor "fruity" appeared in the scent directions, so the chances looked good.
Hydra Figue somewhat overwhelms you with its extensive "there's something for everyone" fragrance pyramid.
My currently slightly hay fever-afflicted nose couldn’t really distinguish between the top and heart notes. Citrus, yes - tending towards bergamot/ginger, and the successful duo of cardamom/sage is also right there from the start. So now to the fig - I smell fig, but not the fruit, rather fig leaf or green, young figs. No ripe, sweet fig flesh/juice. The scent remains wonderfully unsweet, even becoming slightly bitter/spicy (from the salt?) and strongly reminds me of
Ichnusa or
Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne + fig green. On my skin, the floral notes are also absent, transitioning rather seamlessly into a creamy-woody scent. Ambroxan doesn’t annoy too much for a change, and my hated vanilla is conspicuously absent. Yay!
Friends of creamy-green scents should find this appealing. Don’t ask me why, but fig + wood + musk always reminds me of the Palmolive olive + milk products. In any case, fresh & clean and also suitable for summer aka warmer temperatures.
I think it can be worn well by both genders if you like softer fragrances. The 2/3 versus 1/3 division here reflects this quite well. If I had to complain, it would only be about the longevity, which could be a bit better (it works on clothing, but I don’t like that too much). Not a sillage monster, and that’s a good thing. Effective range of a good body lotion freshly applied.
Yes, nice - now I’m afraid to test the other three, if I like them just as much I’ll have to sell body parts again. Menno...
