Overpriced fumes
La Fumée Ottoman opens with a nice, invigorating and “conventionally fascinating” sugary-zesty incense note, Givaudan’s bright and refined incense like you find pretty much anywhere since some years (not the “avantgarde” transparent note like in many CdG’s; think of some more organic-resinous and bright note, like in Maria Candida Gentile Exultat, or Fueguia Misiones and so on); then pepper, dusty balsamic olibanum and other rich, caramelized resins, a mellow sort of tobacco-woody note which reminds me of Tabacco Toscano by Santa Maria Novella; finally woods, patchouli and something plummy-fruity which together with woods (and to me, also something like suede) reminds me of the fruity-woody “suedeness”of Goodsir’s Cuir Velours (which means Lutens’ Daim Blond) ... that’s it, at the intersection of all these names lies La Fumée Ottoman. Basically the only “signature” difference is the usual musky and slightly camphorous note which lies on the base of several Harris scents, this included, creating their peculiar “grayish-dusty” feel. Woody drydown. Overall a decently pleasant scent, just a tad conventional and unoriginal in my opinion, but nice. Scandalously overpriced.

Stays close to the skin
On my skin this is amber predominant, and the amber is joined by lightly wafting incense, here hints of rose, cumin and cardamom. Whispers of Patchouli arrive in the base notes. It's a skin scent on me, but quite good nonetheless. Longevity is about average, but I do think it is a bit overpriced, unless you get it on sale.

Beautiful
SotD La Fumee Ottoman - Miller Harris

If you're familiar with La Fumee, you'll relate to this review.

In a nut shell, this is La Fumee with the incense toned down and a very very sober rose added.
This would appeal to doting La Fumee fans or those who were overwhelmed with the incense accord in the original.

Wonderful flattering-cuddly treasure
what a wonderful scent. The last fragrance I tested today I had to wash off. Such things often ruin everything that comes after. Not exactly a good prerequisite to test another fragrance at all. But this treasure makes it easy for me to love it. It is not too sweet, not too heavy, not too spicy; nothing is overdone, without the scent appearing boring. A kind of ashy note can even be recognized, but as terrible as that sounds, it greatly benefits the fragrance. The amber seems quite sweet, the fruits, along with the cumin and cardamom, contribute an "Arabian"-like, oriental note. No worries, those who find this scent terrible can still love Miller Harris. Because here it is much softer and gentler, and the amber brings almost a slightly gourmand aspect into play. But then comes this ash aspect... whatever that may be. Something at least gives the fragrance a wonderfully dry nuance, a certain powdery, dusty dryness that beautifully captures the sweetness of the amber as well as the oriental impressions of the dried fruits and spices. This gives the fragrance an incredible elegance and beauty. Without that, it could quickly become too sweet, too spicy, briefly excite, and then quickly annoy. But as it is, it is intriguing, yet not annoying, and remains a wonderfully noble companion that makes you feel comfortable. A magnificent fragrance!

English Perfume Art in Oriental Style
This "smoky Ottoman" is a successful blind buy from the Parfumo Souk.
And it is the second fragrance I own from the company "Miller Harris".
The first, "Fumèe", was a sale tester from the perfumery.
And I like this one so much that I dared to purchase the next one solely based on the "fragrance pyramid".
The "Fumèe Ottoman" is just as mysterious as the "Smoky" without a name, but in a completely different way.
While the first has "edges and corners" that dominate and is "purer" in its sacred statement, the second has a "fluffy coat" that allows the incense to shine while making it balsamically supportive, softer, and subtler.
With the rose in the "top" and in the base, an accent is added that evokes fields of roses after a bountiful, soothing rain.
Strongly bitter, combined with earthy nuances, this scent note is not "sweet embellishment", but has, with a touch of "dark heaviness", a distinctly defining character.
An olfactory peculiarity of "Fumèe Ottoman" is an almost dusty-dark-warm scent note that also reminds one of cedarwood, but contains an additional component, like finely milled earthy powder, which I cannot quite identify.
A small amount of slightly herbal spice pleasantly runs through the entire scent progression, right up to the long-lasting balsamic-rosy base.
The "cool Brits" have created a wonderfully warm-hearted oriental scent, as if the perfumers themselves had been on site.
By the way, the longevity and sillage are longer and stronger for me than stated above.

Warm, enveloping amber, dusted with spice, wafted with incense, with hints of wood and flowers. It's like a hug from a much loved friend.

Very impressive and appealing. Dripping wet ashy earth, spicy freshness, rugged wood, a sweating rose underneath.

The ottoman is in front of the fireplace. It's cozy warm in the plush room. Slowly sipping a cup of spiced tea.

A lot of incense in the top note.
It becomes more balanced in the base :)
EDIT: I get vanilla and incense. Wonderful *.*

Slightly resinous-smoky, a bit of amber, a certain sweetness, leans more towards the feminine side! Not for me!

At first, it reminds me a bit of Thai curry with fragrant rice, then it becomes fruitier. I can hardly detect any incense here.

A stay on a spicy rose bed in front of the dying fireplace: nothing extraordinary, but beautifully smoky and wearable!

Frankincense in green and fresh, spicy rose and smoky fruits. Very intense but easy to wear. I’d prefer a pinch less cardamom.
