An almost spiritual experience
I've never had a fragrance come so close to bringing me to tears. The first whiff was pure delight--a near spiritual experience.

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, this fragrance is a time capsule from many lovely memories. This is not mearly an impressionistic image of what a forest could be. This is a vivid, photorealistic memory of a very literal forest.

The opening is quite sharp and earthy, almost overpoweringly so. The strong aroma of soil and mushrooms is a bit jarring in its clarity. In fact, at first you may think this fragrance is too earthy to be wearable--but give it time!

Very quickly this fragrance mellows and the sharp earth notes fade. Now you become more aware of fresh pine needles, moss, cedar, and just a vague hint of flowers. Everything is there, but it's all in perfect harmony.

If the forest is your love language, you MUST try this perfume! For outdoorsy types this smell is an instant dopamine hit. A warm embrace from one of nature's most sacred places.

The only small problem lies in the power and realism of this perfume. I don't know how one could handle wearing this on a daily or even weekly basis. But I will hold onto my sample dearly and pull it out any time I need a quick memory trip into the deep woods.

My personal "jurassic park"
Big green, poisonous, camphoric, with giant prehistoric trees, huge sour leaves and large caterpillars. It keeps perfect balance between natural woodiness and greenness and consists of various transformations of green in the visual spectum, that really reflects many shades of green world. It's my personal "jurassic park" trip from dark to light and back.

Sit back and enjoy the show
First whiff of this was almost medicinal, from the balsam and myrhh perhaps. The very next instant was earthy and damp from the mushrooms. Then after a min. or so, the fir and cedar came out. Then it was earthy again. Amazing. There is fir and cedar in the base.

After about twenty min. I started to get the wildflowers. What a divine floral to use here. So pretty, soft and sweet (not sugary at all). Wow. the complexity of this is astounding. The heart of this is the wildflowers with oakmoss and something I'm not familiar with, the fern maybe? The oakmoss is a little dusty. The fir and cedar are still in the base.

The drydown is fir, myrhh, honey and something earthy and woody, maybe the mushrooms. The honey sweetens this up giving it the perfect balance. The fir and cedar persist in the base, a constant throughout the evolution of this scent.

It lasted about five hours with moderate projection. This scent is worth every penny. It's quite a show. The craftsmanship is awe inspiring. True artistry.

The Unsung Hero Of Foresty Fragrances
In the world of good foresty conifer themed fragrance, Olympic Rainforest is a criminally underrated gem and should receive much more praise than it does. If on the basis of nothing more than it being one of the most original and unique attempts at the style.

Everyone seems to want to make a Norne. Norne is great and it will always have a special place in my heart, but Norne is tired. Norne is getting on in years. Norne just wants to close it's eyes and finally get some rest, and we keep rehashing it over and over. Let Norne go. Please. A few of the popular ones are good. I liked Fume. I haven't smelled Mirkwood or Fanghorn 2 but I hear nothing but praise so I'll trust the general consensus. Original Polo was a defining moment in time, but that time has gone.

Here we have a fresh exciting take on the forest, and one that stands totally apart from the herd. Covey went with Port Orford cedar as a frame, instead of the typical Virginia or atlas cedars, and that immediately brightens the whole thing up with a dewy damp and musty green-woody thing that almost reminds me of fresh trimmed sativa cannabis buds.

The arborvitae cypress further brightens up the profile with a sharp, piercing cool camphor conifer breath, akin to breathing deep in the misty Olympic forest.

Black spruce and fir balsam give a waft of more traditional Christmas tree conifers, but the sticky earthy myrrh and the faint fruity floral rhododendron work together to make a spiced beeswax accord that just launches this off in another direction, and I would go as far to say this is so unique and creative that I'm surprised it hadn't been mimicked the way Norne has.

Norne is painfully simple. Olympic Rainforest's beauty comes from its super unusual and creative combination of naturals, one must wonder if Dr. Covey just might be a genius. This alone is worthy of earning one a doctorate.

I think it's a masterpiece. Very atmospheric and highly atypical, without forgetting to be a wearable fragrance. All the stars.

PNW in a bottle
I grew up in the woods of the PNW. Just a little south of the actual “rainforest” part of the state but damp, mossy, and evergreen nonetheless. This perfume is a walk through the woods of my childhood home on a damp morning when the rain has stopped just long enough to get out in the woods. The sword ferns and branches of pine trees lightly brush against your legs and shoulders as you navigate the muddy trail, patches of chanterelles and lobster mushrooms visible in the mossy undergrowth of the tall trees.

This is a special scent that will be extra special if the PNW means something to you personally.

Can you fault a fragrance for being too literal? Never a candle. An endearing rendering of the Olympic forest. Perfect camping scent.

More floral than I was expecting but makes it more wearable. This is the rainforest on a sunny day, nice and warm!

A highly evergreen scent. Reviews noting a medicinal smell are dead on; the myrtle and mushrooms do it no favors.

Was hoping this would be greener, like a darker B&BW Rainkissed leaves. Something (I think the bee balm) reminded me of disinfectant.

A warm and dry, earthy floral-woody Fall fragrance, with a rather dark and pungent, medicinal spicy-resinous opening. Masculine.
