Longing for the sea!
"Mayday mayday..depth sounder down..
try to land..
see an island made of Haribo TropiFrutti"...

..Dracula was lonely...and so he escaped more and more often into daydreams to escape the dark, cold and musty cave where he dwelled during the day.
How he would love to spend the days, in far more southern climes...

Through the centuries of isolation, his self-esteem and his zest for life had suffered badly.

The vitamin D deficiency did the rest..pale pale skin, dark circles under his eyes, hair loss...what had become of the once proud Vlad..
It could not go on like this..
If he couldn't go to the South Seas, at least the South Seas should come to him..

Today my life begins anew!
...

As night fell, he flew purposefully to the small grocer's shop in his county seat of Bran. Slipping nimbly into the store through a window that was ajar, he maneuvered swiftly into the sparsely stocked fruit section.
Bananas, figs and some funny looking fruit in the shape of a star, had caught his attention, the store did not have much else to offer.
He stoutly grabbed a stray fruit net and eagerly scooped the fruit into the bag.
Through the window he had now opened, he disappeared, bag packed, silently into the night.

Back in his cave, his heart throbbed with excitement as vigorously as he had not experienced since the year 1336, when he took his first sip of blood.
In an instant, his excitement turned to sheer horror...Blood!..

Bananas, figs, star fruit???
What had he been thinking...since his transformation, he couldn't eat anything else, only blood.
Humans called this strange disease "fructose intolerance"...whether he was also afflicted with it, he didn't know...only he was unable to eat such a thing.
His horror gave way to sheer rage and so he hurled the net into the furthest corner -his expression stiffened and with a gesture of disgust he disappeared into the depths of the cave system.

Minutes, hours, days passed without even a sign of life from the cave..
Suddenly, after 2 weeks of silence, something stirred, but it wasn't Vlad, a family of martens had made themselves at home in his absence.
Attracted by the scent of rotting fruit, a pair of martens now lived there, what had once belonged to the proud Dracula.

The animals were just feasting on the remains of the muddy fruit when, coming out of the darkness, a shadow tore one of the martens without warning into the same.

A short yelp and crack was heard, then silence.
The other animal just managed to save itself with a spirited leap into a crevice.

The shadowy figure stepped out of the darkness...it was Vlad.... emaciated and close to madness - the long pointed teeth flashed from the lifeless body of the marten...
Sadness was in his red under-rimmed eyes..
Had he really thought he could escape his fate and want more from life?

He shuddered at his own thoughts and.........woke up!

Darkness had come in over the little town...
....a strange dream...how long had he been asleep?

No matter...he knew only one thing:

The hunt is on!

The Fragrance Equivalent of Duct-taping a Banana to a Wall
After reading many rave reviews about the original "Bat" (now "Night Flyer), I was dying to get my hands on a sample. Imagine my excitement when it finally arrived and I had a chance to smell this world-renowned fragrance. Now picture my disappointment when the thing I smelled was one terrible note: moist dirt.

I was confused and incensed! Had I misinterpreted the reviews? Was there something wrong with my nose?

Where were the subtle notes of banana and guava?

Where was the floral?

Then I had a sudden realization: Night Flyer is nothing more than "art" in its purest form. Hear me out...

Most people expect modern art to be a photo-realistic interpretation of something beautiful; a portrait or a landscape. However, "art" in its purest form is designed to evoke *feeling*. This is why people often get outraged by art when something as ridiculous as a banana taped to a wall sells for $12,000. It angers and disgusts people because it "breaks the rules" and defies our expectations of what "art" should be. However, in evoking these feelings, it has accomplished the intended goal.

Fragrances are similar. However, we expect fragrances to NOT be a photo-realistic interpretations. We do not actually want to smell a bouquet of flowers, we want an artist's impressionistic interpretation of the ideal floral smell.

What makes Dr. Ellen Covey a true artist, is how she breaks those expectations by creating very literal and unconventional fragrances. Dr. Covey doesn't just give you an ocean scene filled with coconuts, she brings you to the ocean "warts and all" and lets you breath the briny, salty air. This is great, transportive art. But not necessarily how a person wants to smell.

With Night Flyer, you smell the whole bat cave, and that smell is as repulsive as one would expect (to my nose at least).

As much as I want to give this fragrance another shining review, I feel the need to be honest about my experience. I respect the art, but I do not think this perfume is wearable or appealing in any way. Unless you love smelling like wet soil.

Ironically, there is a glitch with Parfumo.net where, when you give a "1-star" review, the caption reads "very good." Which is exactly how I feel about this perfume. It's a terrible smell, but for what it is, it really is "very good!"

The name says it all...
My first contact with this house is the fragrance Night Flyer and without knowing what to expect I tested it.

The name is so appropriate and the scent is strongly reminiscent of a bat, the only question is who wants to smell like a bat? Only a vampire or Batman would come to mind :D
At the beginning there is only a strong alcoholic note, but this fades very quickly and you get a resinous, wet earthy note. A slightly woody note radiates in the background and combined with the remaining alcoholic beginning, the fragrance is initially more reminiscent of a medicine or a medicinal cream for muscle relaxation or something similar
The start is very intense and not at all mine, but as always, wait and see and drink tea :-)

The earthy note becomes more and more intense and it is really incredible how this fragrance reminds you more and more of a damp, wet cave and underneath you is a damp, wet, slightly boggy earth.
Bat cave sends its regards!

With time, a certain sweetness is added and the banana note is also recognizable far in the background and reinforces the fruit accords! But the most dominant impression is of wet, damp earth.

The leather note also becomes increasingly dominant and lends the fragrance a certain animalic quality, and now the impression of a bat in its habitat comes into its own.

So it is really interesting and exciting to smell a fragrance that reminds you so strongly of an inhabited bat cave, yet I keep asking myself the question, who wants to smell like that? Not me defnitv. I'm not a vampire and I'm not Batman hatching a plan in the Batcave :-D

For all dark, gloomy lovers and those who want to smell particularly different, it may be an interesting fragrance, because you will definitely stand out, just not in a positive way As I said, who wants to smell like a wet, damp bat cave where there's even a bat around?
Towards the drydown, the fragrance becomes much more pleasant and reminds you, even if far away, of the scent of Au Coeur du Désert in the heart notes.

Longevity and sillage are really good, but in my eyes it's rather fatal for such a fragrance that it radiates so well and lasts so long :-D

So if you like to feel like a bat and like to feel comfortable in dark, damp caves, this fragrance is just right for you!

1000+ lakes wonderland
I have a lake lake house in Mazury district/Poland and from late autumn til early spring the weather is quite severe in terms of humidity. There is an old basement there, underground, it used to be a place where pottery was done, with an old klin. Now it houses bats for this hard period of the year. And this story brings me to conclusion - the basement smells exactly like Night Flyer: authentic, connoting these little creatures hanging and sleeping on dampish walls. It is also about November soil with remains of rotten leaves, light air and low sky full of steal clouds.
Night Flyer fragrance paradoxically feels me with patience and hope that from time to time one needs to stop and rest. And that long days and warm nights will come back.
This is an illustration of fin de siècle but with happy end. Circle of life.

Wet earth smell in a bottle
This perfume is the smell of wet earth, of a wall with humidity, with some other things.
The first 45 minutes are the best, we have a lot of wet earth, that makes you feel as if you were in a cave, soon a banana note joins, and thus the fruity component rises until it reaches 25 minutes where we will have wet earth, banana and fig, at this point we have a quite unique, pleasant combination, but that has nothing to do with the original idea or at least the one I expected, it is as if the mixture had been unbalanced.

Soon the smell of wet earth dominate the mix again, which loses progressively the surrounding effect. About the performance, it projects for an hour and a half well and it last about 5 hours.

It has left me a bit cold, I expected more from "the original bat formula", where the best part is when the components go crazy, I personally love the smell of wet earth, and maybe if you use it on a rainy day listening to sad music you'll enter in a melancholic loop that will mark that day for the rest of your life, but it stills being just the smell of humid earth bottled with little usability.

Smells like wet dirt. Points for creativity and realism, but otherwise just awful.

Initially dusty fruity-sweet, this challenging, yet unique spicy green-earthy Fall fragrance settles to a slightly animalic dry-woody base.
