Wild Olfactory Experience
The description of this fragrance on the website is right, you probably haven't smelled anything like this before. You see all of those notes in the description. They're all there. You've got spices, you've got resins, you've got wafts of flowers, there is smoke, there is sweetness. They aren't especially blended either. It evokes a warm, vibrant (if sometimes discordant) flow of a bustling Indian marketplace.
Gujarat is a journey. The general fragrance evolves from bitter-spicy (bitter-lime, cumin, holy basil), to floral-spicy (marigold, ginger, rose, mango), to woody-spicy (patchouli, frankincense, cardamom) , but I find that the prominent notes of each phase of this fragrance differ every time I wear it. Sometimes the notes blend together, other times I get very distinctive "wafts" of one note or another. As mentioned previously, this fragrance is an idealized. version of the experience of walking around a spice market.
To me, gujarat is the perfume equivalent of a a wild couture dress. It's a wild olfactory experience that highlights the incredible talents of Dr. Covey and 100% worth a sniff, but it's more of a special occasion fragrance (and even then, I'm not sure if I would wear this to something like a wedding, but this would be nice for an outside festival). I'd call this one solidly unisex, and despite the richness of the fragrance, I think it's best suited for hot, humid weather. Despite classifying this one as a more challenging fragrance, it's like catnip for me, I can't stop sniffing and hunting out all of the different notes.
