The parallel universe where you spray coffee and drink perfume
Like every day I hurried to work, wanted to spray myself with coffee at Dougbucks but the queue was too long, everybody wanted the sweet Rochas. I was late for the meeting; annoying, but I had to go. Then I saw a new flower shop which only sold orchids but also offered coffee to spray, according to the advertising sign. I went inside and a dark-haired lady offered me the so-called Cafe V. Because of lack of time I did not think long, bought and went quickly into the office tower. As I drove up to the 10th floor, I sniffed around and realized that I would stand out today among all the sweet coffees. Only Mark smells different from the majority of the colleagues, namely mocha with cardamom from Chennai, India
Arriving at the office, I was quickly informed that the meeting was cancelled, the boss had an even more important meeting. So Mark and I went to the perfume kitchen and had a Colonia Club to wake up. I was stirring in the green bottle with the syringe and looked out of the window as Mark went into the dialogue:
"Rollo, you smell different today than usual!" "Yeah, the line was too long at Dougbucks and I was on my way to a new store. What do you think? The scent is called Café V."
"Very particularly, I can't pass judgment on that directly. You smell like cardamom, but unsweetened and rather heavy. "It covers the bitter coffee like a veil. I don't think it's bitter but it's not mild either. Too strong for many people but not really overpowering. You know what I mean? "
"I think so, so far I like him too, but you're right, no love at first sight. I'll keep testing him. Had a jug filled with 10ml."
So time went by, I worked through my office stuff, made phone calls, balanced my pen on my nose and checked mails and our messenger service, which I filled with funny GIFs. In the process I noticed that my coffee was changing. Now it smelled more like chai latte, which had a calming effect on me. Even more: it triggered a kind of longing for peace and security.
Suddenly my door opened and I shook off my thoughts.
"You all right, Rollo?"
"Yeah, sure...boss. All good."
"You don't smell as sweet as usual to me today. Any chance you stopped by another café today?"
"That's right, I did, boss."
"You seem to me to be more clearly confessed. Carry on."
Then he left my office
Now Cafe V smelled different again, it became vanilla and it was as if the coffee was now more capucchino than espresso. Decorated with fine cocoa powder. This became more and more pleasing, intensive and at the same time more detailed. I first had to take a sip of perfume to get by. As soon as I entered the kitchen, I saw the crowd already lamenting. The machine was broken. There was only filter perfume. I decided to take a break and go back to this orchid shop to look for an exchange, because in the meantime I was very fascinated.
The shop was closed, so I went back to the office and slowly the smell picked up speed again, as I couldn't help noticing. The vanilla dissolved in the coffee as if espresso had been poured in again. Gently it became leathery. Yes, but it smelled like hot coffee in a leather container. This vessel was not at all dirty or coarse. The leather had the scent of normal leather goods, which are not recent, not old, but like leather that loses its initially intense scent during storage and has only been used lightly. It simply smelled like leather furniture. It was very well woven with the rest. Satisfied with my choice I went home.
Epilogue: A few months later my bottling plant was empty and I visited the shop again. There was only a sign hanging outside, through the dirty windows you could see the yawning emptiness in the sales room; the sign said: your new Dougbucks will open here soon!
