A great clone

I decided to give this a try because I don’t like to take my authentic frags on trips when I fly. When it came in and I opened it, the sprayer came off when I took off the cap . Not the best start to a “test run”.

But then I gave it a smell. Wow! I’m impressed. The drydown is PERFECT…. This is a louder, dryer feeling Haltane clone. Quality wise, a PDM loyalist will notice and snub it, but the average Joe won’t be able to tell.

5ft projection, nice sillage, and great longevity…. All for $25…. This is going to be in my suitcase whenever I fly…. The bottle sucks though…

Still waiting for the OG Detour Layton clone to arrive, but Eco is an easy win for the price!

Choosing THE ONE favorite fragrance is certainly difficult for pretty much all of us.

If someone were to pin me down, my answer would be Haltane by Parfums de Marly. This beloved Haltane is unmistakably the inspiration for Detour Eco.

The biggest differences are found in the opening, as Detour Eco is fresher right after spraying than its predecessor. Accordingly, Haltane is noticeably deeper at the beginning, and I perceive the dark woods in Haltane more quickly than in Eco. In my opinion, the Eco lacks the leather, which gives Haltane a bit more masculinity. I am absolutely not THE masculine type, but this fragrance composition has still captured me.

Both fragrances beautifully combine the emerging freshness with a woody heaviness and a subtle sweetness. Neither of them is a sweet gourmand fragrance, but the sweetness adds a twist that makes both extremely wearable. I have worn both in cooler temperatures as well as around 20 °C and would not claim that they were inappropriate at any point.

During my parental leave, I regularly go hiking with my daughter and wife through the woods. During these forest walks, one occasionally perceives a lovely woody and, in my opinion, slightly sweet scent, often near pines, and I get exactly this feeling with Haltane and Detour Eco, which is why I associate both fragrances inseparably with these forest walks with my family, making them both beautiful and indispensable for me.

Regarding the presentation and bottle, there probably isn't much to say; everyone can see that for themselves. Haltane is a very high-quality 10/10, while the Detour bottles are a medium disaster. At least the matte green of the Detour stands out a bit, which is why I would rate it slightly higher than Detour Noir.

In conclusion, I would say that Haltane and Detour Eco exude incredible elegance, which I associate with a character like Harvey Specter from Suits: elegant, self-assured, and quick-witted. The gentleman's scent, my signature fragrance direction, and both are an absolute recommendation.

In the opening, it's noticeably fresher than the original, I even like it a bit more. After that, it becomes more similar. In the drydown, it's hardly distinguishable from Haltane.

In the opening, it's harsh and medicinal, turning into a fresh-floral take on Haltane/OFG, and in the drydown, it becomes more like Haltane without the leather and wonderfully creamy.
