A 'must try' for oud lovers!
I find this to be an excellent oud fragrance, very long lasting. The woody sharpness of the oud is softened just slightly with the addition of vanilla, great for times when you want a lighter scent. It's good on it's own, and also lends itself well to layering with a variety of other perfumes and oils. I totally agree with the many reviewers who said that they find the quality of this fragrance to be FAR higher than it's price. I've been trying to convince people for years that expensive does not necessarily equal quality, mostly to no avail - but I've personally tried samples of quite a few high priced oud fragrances, and found Sultan Al Oud to be as good, and in some cases better, than all but one of them. I'm looking forward to trying more of these Arabian oils! EDIT: I'm wearing this today layered with violet leaf eo - it's a FANTASTIC combination!!

Dark and sweet.
I love this one so much. I usually wear sweet, woody, smoky, spicy fragrances. And sometimes when outdoor allergens are aggravating me, I have a hard time wearing the sprays. Then I use oils for a little while. This one projects well for me. Even though it's said it leans masculine, with my skin chemistry it smells like incense, candy, bonfire, and fall. It makes me think of Halloween, which I love. I'm a woman, and I get compliments with this one. But unless your a woman that likes dark and woody scents, it might not be for you.

Soft, creamy-green oud
A glance at Sultan Al Oud’s name might have you trembling in anticipation of a full-on oudy onslaught – but relax. This is a soft, inoffensive essay on woods that is incredibly easy to wear and won’t have anyone in your immediate vicinity wrinkling their noses. The perfume derives most of its force from a creamy vanilla in the base but gains auxiliary interest by way of the same soapy green cardamom note that features so strongly in Tom Ford’s Oud Wood. The texture of the oil resembles lather from a luxurious shaving soap, but other than this, there is nothing to sway it in the direction of one sex or the other. In fact, like Oud Wood, Sultan Al Oud is as smooth and as featureless as a Ken doll.

Later on, Sultan Al Oud smoothes out into a clean, rubbery woods accord that, when paired with the bland vanilla, recalls those great Lattafa cheapies Raghba and Ameer al Oudh, minus the chemical screech of their synthetic oud. Highly recommended as a gateway into the whole ‘oudy’ arena, because although it contains not even a drop of oud, Sultan Al Oud still manages to convey a convincingly oudy aroma. It is on the dapper side of wearability, so it won’t scare the horses

ERROR 404: Oud Wood not found
Having already had very good experiences with the Tom Oudh perfume oil from an Arabian manufacturer, I ordered four perfume oil roll-ons from Al Rehab: Sultan Al Oud Perfume Oil, Bakhour Perfume Oil, Golden Perfume Oil and Dakar Perfume Oil.

After the Dakar Perfume Oil was a direct hit, I was unfortunately disappointed by the Sultan Al Oud Perfume Oil. To me, the fragrance smells only very remotely - if at all - like Oud Wood Eau de Parfum or Oud Wood Intense. The fragrance is probably not bad on its own, but for someone like me who was looking for the Oud Wood Eau de Parfum DNA, it is unfortunately sobering. Difficult to define for me, I perceive spice & a certain sweetness but the wood from the Oud Wood Eau de Parfum is missing

You can certainly try it for the price, but if you're looking for a perfume oil with an Oud Wood Eau de Parfum scent, you're much better off with the Tom Oudh. That remains my go-to for the Oud Wood Eau de Parfum alternative.

CPO#10 The relaxed sultan
Concentrated perfume oils are still an exciting thing for me. On the one hand, they don't contain any alcohol, and on the other, you can tell from the concentration of the oil whether it would also have potential in EdP form. There are oils that are so highly concentrated that they have to develop first, and those that lie on the skin after application, are there and linger gently.

This definitely includes Sultan al oud.

In the end, I knew what I was getting into with this fragrance, as I know Ameer al oud, Black Afgano, as well as Black oud by Al Haramain from the past. I can't find Oud Wood here even with a lot of imagination...

All in all, I would say 70% Ameer, 20% BA and 10% Black oud, which I found very earthy. Sultan al oud has a slightly earthy note at the beginning, but this soon disappears. The woody notes push forward, and whatever oud is mixed in here, I certainly don't notice any. What the fragrance cannot deny after a while is patchouli and/or vetiver in the base.

The sweetness of Ameer al oud is actually absent here too.

All in all, a very straightforward and rather dry fragrance with few changes and an unfortunately very dimmed durability and sillage, I am simply used to more from the three fragrances mentioned above. However, this should not be a criterion to rate the fragrance lower, it has just never quite been my scent.

This scent somehow resembles to the OG version of Opium Pour Homme EDP. I assume amber&vanilla are responsible for the effect. Awesome!
