I love this perfume. I still have almost 20ml in a bottle from 1998. Different and strong masculine sense, amazing composition with a great sillage and projection. Now I only use in special occasions, but every time I do, people ask me what I'm wearing. I would like to know a similar juice. If anyone have a suggestion, please let me know. Cheers.

Aramis Havana Reserva
Released in 1996 as a “concentree” flanker to the original, this one has been long discontinued and can be tough to find. The bottles are identical, shaped as a conga drum in blue frosted glass, with the only difference being that Reserva has a silver topped cap.

Havana Reserva is definitely a different animal than the original, however the backbone and DNA are the same. The opening is much less aromatic / boozy and instead dives right into a thick, oily blend of spices over a dusty vanilla. They are both mildly sweet.

After an hour, your head will be placed squarely inside the bouquet of the humidor's chopping block as the leafy, earthy tobacco and cedar sharpen their collective axe. Your smile should be a mile wide at this point!

Reserva is an amazing composition, BUT truthfully, only dyed in the wool Aramis Havana devotees (like me) need apply. The overall differences are not going to be worth it for the casual fan of the original.

If you are interested in applying for admission as a Brother of the Leaf, then polish up your V-cutter and expect to pay north of $125 for a 100ml bottle.

A Recommendable Trip to Cuba
Twelve years ago, I was eager to travel to Havana. The reason for my haste was not only curiosity but also the desire to experience this highly interesting city in its not yet heavily restored state and to have been in Cuba during Fidel Castro's time in office. Not that I was a friend of his politics; rather, I was concerned about the security aspect, as who knows how the island or the country would develop afterward.

I was there for eight days, having booked a modest room in a somewhat modern hotel right on the Malecon, Havana's most famous coastal road, which primarily had a free swimming pool on the sixth floor, allowing me to enjoy a great view from there.

The special thing about this trip: I was neither traveling with a group nor with a tour operator, but rather alone, completely on my own. This way, one is flexible in their decisions and can allocate time for all experiences, although not directly sharing them with others.

I particularly enjoyed the spring climate there. It was pleasantly warm, and in the evenings, one could still sit outside, sipping affordable mojitos and daiquiris while enjoying a puff from one or another reasonably purchased original Cohiba or Romeo y Julieta. Perfect - amidst all the morbid charm of American classic cars from the 50s and the aging houses, some of which had peeling plaster or half trees growing from the floors.

However, I had to make compromises when it came to food. I didn't have to starve, but somehow I felt that chicken with rice and black beans was offered everywhere. It's edible, but please not every day.

Olfactorily, the island nation had little to offer at that time, apart from the scent of sharply roasted coffee in the streets. Although I did bring back "Montecristo" as an Eau de Toilette from the local duty-free shop, that's another story or comment.

Although Havana by Aramis had never been in my possession and I only knew the scent more or less from samples, I often thought of the FiFi Award winner from 1995 during my stay.

It somehow fit. The city radiated a colorful aura amidst its slightly morbid charm, exotic and a bit playful. Havana is also like that as a fragrance; sweet through tobacco, soapy-fresh, and a little mysterious with gentle spice, including sensual temperament and a polished appearance. I certainly did not find the Cuban metropolis dirty, even though many buildings and streets had clearly been gnawed at by the tooth of time.

Meanwhile, Havana is being restored more and more, making the city even cleaner and more colorful, and it is certainly an aesthetic sight, but it makes the overall impression feel a bit artificial, like Disneyworld and Legoland. Moreover, more and more of the typical classic cars are disappearing or being replaced by modern vehicles. Really a shame, but one can understand that Cubans do not want to live in nostalgia all the time.

Havana Reserva has also been revived from obscurity and modernized as part of the Havana Gentleman’s Collection. It is a bit different from the original, but still at a top level.

Both the two fragrances and the metropolis are recommendable. If you have the chance to get there or to experience it, you should take it!

Why only.........
sometimes it's hard to understand......this amazing fragrance has been discontinued. Unfortunately, it probably wasn't a mainstream scent. It was extraordinary, masculine, distinctive with a very sensual note. I MISS YOU........

Strong spicy tobacco smoke with resinous accents and a wild mix of floral, wood, and vanilla in the background. Could still stand today.

Not for guys under 40 :D
Definitely a strong, robust scent for distinguished gentlemen with hair on their chest.
Just need a good cigar!

For me, it's an alcohol-soaked fruit-spice potpourri. Sweetly fizzy, strongly assertive in its development. A classic.

Has little to do with the original. The tobacco is mostly missing and replaced by aquatic notes. Extremely successful.
