Lovely Aramis with Less Spice

Not as spicy as the usual Aramis fragrances, and that's why I like it. For me, it's a blue-green scent.

It opens fresh and friendly with a strong cognac note and citrusy resinous wood. However, the cognac fades quickly and the scent slightly collapses, but then offers a beautiful woody incense note.

A certain spiciness always remains, keeping the fragrance unobtrusive and suitable for everyday wear. I prefer it this way rather than a spice bomb. However, it could definitely be a bit more potent.

Vetiver-Chypre for Autumn

What one buys for fragrances when they are being slashed at Kaufhof... 40 € for 240 ml, I snapped it up, even though I didn't actually have it on my bucket list. I tested it from time to time; at first, it seemed too sharp to me - but if you let it develop longer, it reveals its charm. Aramis has focused solely on its core competency, namely substantial chypre fragrances.

The top note appears grassy-green, somewhat coniferous (pine needle) with aldehydes - no citrus freshness in sight, which I see as the reason why I can only tolerate more than a few fleeting whiffs now in autumn. Those familiar with Estée Lauder women's fragrances like "Private Collection" or "Alliage" will experience a certain déjà vu with this accord. Intense, bitter vetiver comes to the forefront, rounded off by a slightly weaker dose of patchouli, as well as thyme and iris. The scent remains bitter, combined with a balsamic heaviness thanks to a base note of incense, oak moss, and cashmeran.

Overall, quite an original fragrance concept, the rather fresh-woody vetiver-chypre in the style of Guerlain has been enhanced with green notes and is more suitable for the year's end with its autumn leaf reminiscent spiciness than for summer. The composition feels minimalist-simple and quite elegant - anyone looking for an alternative to "Encre Noire" should definitely give it a try.

Upside down world - this new & super unnecessary Aramis knockoff is a regular office scent. For the name Aramis, it's almost a disgrace. And since you can't shake off associations & images tied to a brand, it just doesn't fit in my mind. Aramis Black claims to be close to the original due to a lack of creativity & an already fitting manufacturer per bottle. But that's bullshit just like the addition of Black. None of this is new outrage, but it's still annoying.

Aramis Black is a sweet, green-piercing medley that barely qualifies as an office scent. A mix of Eau de Cade & Boss Bottled Intense, but in a dull way. I'd rather stick with the Calligraphy line, which Aramis has beautifully accomplished. Black is a scratchy-synthetic blend of grapefruit, vetiver, juniper & tonka bean that, while not unpleasant in the office, stands out here on Parfumo. With new releases, you simply hope for something different, especially from a once so masculine, stately brand. What we got is the seemingly hundredth weakling following the current trends of flow, mass, and cheapest options. No no no!

Bottle: simple - nothing new from Aramis
Sillage: an arm's length. No more, no less.
Longevity: 5 meager hours.

Conclusion: no Aramis, no Black, no enthusiasm, no cookies - Aramis, stop trying to be young!

Between Herbiness, Resinousness, and Woodiness - Initially Unbalanced, Ultimately Nice

Aramis is throwing around its "Aramis" variants like nothing good these days - it seems to be simply fashionable.
Does the average customer even see through this?

Especially since, as is common with Armani and others, the money for the bottle designer has been completely saved, and only the color has been changed. To me, this is dreadful, as it seems to be a banal attempt to at least formally transfer the magic of the old (good) original scents to the often meager new releases.

Thus, the completely inappropriately named "Black," a rather thematically green scent, starts off quite herbaceous, scratchy, and slightly bitter. Grapefruit and something resinous form a somewhat distant, rough base note, resembling unripe fruits and roots.

Gradually, it becomes softer, although this takes over an hour. Then a bright, soft hint of incense emerges, along with mild, greenish vetiver, arranged with restraint, surrounded by very light woody tones.

At this point, "Black" is indeed coherent and almost friendly - but it absolutely needs to be renamed "Aramis Green" to avoid misleading customers.
