A Travel Bag Full...
England 1991. On the drive from London Airport, the car is filled with a temptingly spicy fresh scent. The fragrance comes from my host mom. My first great love for a scent has ignited, at first whiff. I still don’t dare to ask with my school English. So I remain silent and enjoy. I get to delight in it throughout the entire Easter holidays, and eventually, I ask what perfume it is. I will never forget that name. Yes, New West. For me, it is connected with my memories of beautiful times in Hastings. The air smells like the West, the scent has an adventurous allure. Hardly back home, I scrape together my savings, march into the nearest perfumery, and test it on my skin. Perfect! I buy it and am happy. It was not my last bottle. Then many other scents came and went, some stayed longer, and eventually, my NW bottle was empty again. And I had to realize with horror that it was no longer available in Germany. Now I am blissfully in possession of a decant - a huge thank you to the forum!
This scent still evokes joy, a youthful fresh spicy spirit, awakening in me a sense of adventure and wanderlust. This fragrance combination of fruit & spice is simply unique. Especially the oceanic notes form a lasting alliance with flowers, fruits, and spicy woods. The scent is rather distinctly cool like a fresh breeze and has nothing warm, soft, or fluffy about it. I smell a lot of melon, which is not sweet and lovely at all here. It seems to carry the aquatic-oceanic components right from the first spray, gathering a hint of rose and jasmine, allying with pine, and together they remain closely linked with cedar in a truly vibrant way for many hours, an entire long day. This is unmistakably New West for me, that’s what defines it.
I think I will feed a piggy bank for this scent, and should I ever discover New West bottles somewhere in a store abroad or elsewhere, then I will buy myself an additional travel bag...
