Reminiscent, but of what ?

Upon showing the travel size I got from a nice Perfuma, everybody wanted to test it: my girlfriend, her son and me. Everybody got as much sprays as they wish. That is one spray for my sweetheart, one for the boy, and, well, quite a few for me.

We then stared each other, both repeating "wait a minute, it reminds me, gosh, wait, it reminds me of ... but of what ?"
I suggested that it may remind us of a nice old lady, a beloved grand ma.
"When was it released? she asked.
- 1970
- Well, that explains a lot.
- And guess what, the house is named Reminiscence"

I guess it was worn by old ladies - back in the 1980's.

Still, it is still here and for a reason. I don't care if it might seem feminine or old-fashioned. I can get wafts of it during hours and it feels good.

It is as comforting and supporting as the lap of your grandmother.

French mom mood

I keep Reminiscence Ambre around. For the price, there’s no good reason not to! Ambre is my perfume equivalent of a neutral earth toned merino knit wrap cardigan sweater. It has a comfortable, content-in-the-background vibe. It works in three seasons and lots of circumstances.

I find Ambre far less spicy than other reviewers, and I don’t buy the brand’s description if it as warm spicy. To me, Rem’s Ambre reads tepid, lukewarm, and room-temperature more than anything else in my collection. My guess is that perhaps the cloves land as spicy to some people - but for me they add just a wee bit of cooling lift to get the amberchouli aspects up off the floor.

This scent starts as it means to continue, so you can decide quickly if it is for you. I find it mostly sits in a vanilla powdery place, but dry enough and patchouli enough to keep it from feeling too femme or flirty. The musk is faintly detergent-like, but in an appealing way that cuts down on any dirtiness or scratchiness you might otherwise get from the patch.

One smells this perfume a lot on French women in their forties and fifties. It reminds me of France and may remind your Millennial French coworkers of their aunties. I’m down with that, personally, but it’s a good to know.

A warm cocoon

I've just tested this fragrance at my usual drugstore and It has been a good surprise: a warm, sweet, "round" oriental fragrance, with a well composed acchord and a wonderful incensed base which last for a few hours.
It could be the perfect winter or night scent; anyway, a true cocoon for my senses

Dark Rumbling Bass

Strangely unexcited. Sometimes things are so clear, so simple.
I am testing Ambre.
I perceive a scent that has always belonged to me.
I smell 100% evidently, give 100%, and also rate the longevity after 2 days with 100%.
I order it.
Period.

No flood of emotional upheaval, no activation of my glamour-bitch module, no shaking of my sensual constitution,… just completely harmonious self-evidence. Not infatuation, but love.
Now I try to write about this fragrance in this almost hermetic feeling of subjective correctness and convey something understandable:
Ambre is an incredibly dark amber scent. Not heavy, not sweet, just dark. Yet not niche-spectacularly dark or highly erotic "black",… just very dark.
The geranium at the beginning doesn’t strike me as particularly floral. It only counters the unmediated spiciness of clove with something bright, so that Ambre doesn’t become deeply dark in the first minutes. Already in the top notes, a distinct amber bass is audible.
With the wood phase, it has developed into a deep breadth. The woods are clearly perceptible, but do not play solos; instead, they accompany the bass with minor chords, which here does not function classically as a rhythm instrument but confidently takes over the melodic line. Patchouli, which can often startle me, adds the necessary swing so that it doesn’t become a dull-monotonous drifting.
The base corresponds to the already established calm sound. It brings a beautiful smoky note echo that plays a little elevation to the now fully spread dark amber and prevents it from sinking too close to the ground. A very creamy soft vanilla harmoniously envelops and smooths with restrained sweetness all even vaguely perceivable hints of edges and peaks.

Very amber.
Very calm.
Very dark.
Beautiful.
Very much mine.

Ambre is a Cozy Sweater

"I had to test 'Ambre | Réminiscence' because I also love the other fragrances in the line. So I got a sample, which thankfully is no problem here. :-)

When I sprayed it on, there was immediately a "wow, that's a strong clove, phew" - and I was disappointed. But really just for a very short time. The sharp clove quickly becomes very subtle.
Yes, you have to like clove!
Then the geranium flashes through, tame yet a little queen.
Yes, you have to like geranium.
However, you should like soapy scents even more. Because Ambre is soapy!
Breaking down the scent into its components is less successful for me, although it doesn't have many ingredients anyway.
Amber is definitely not one of them. Here, the base of labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, and musk gives the "amber" feeling. And it is dreamily soft, dark, and warm.
The clove definitely makes up a large part of the sweet, special spiciness.
The woods combined with patchouli in the heart ground it with a balsamic undertone.
The clove and its friend geranium run through the entire scent progression, sometimes more, sometimes less, present.
When I wear it, I have a constant, pleasant cloud around me for hours and intensely. Minimum longevity 10h for me.
I think it fits better in the autumn/winter, as the sillage is quite strong, and warmth enhances it even more.

Conclusion: A beautiful cozy scent.
Soapy, sweet-spicy, balsamic, creamy, dark-beautiful, and warm-soft.
My cozy sweater. Put it on and feel good.
