A Hooray to the Avon Representatives!
If you are a student and strapped for cash, you have to know how to help yourself. Friends of mine became Avon representatives in the early eighties. This job was a strict female domain and I guess they were the only male Avon representatives then. There were TV spots who showed Avon ladies in their customers' living rooms, surrounded by lots of creams and beauty tonics.
I have no idea if they had any success but this was my chance to get to know the Avon products. We were sitting together in their dump in Bruckhausen, surrounded by lots of creams and beauty tonics, and perfume samplers.
It was Nexus that I still remember by name. The Avon line up was not that exclusive to say the least, but Nexus was good. It was more noble and gentleman-like than the other colognes. I think it was a sort of Aromatic Fougère, but with a spicy touch. I particularly remember it had something creamy as well, maybe a now prohibited musk. Nexus was not particularly sportive, I think it was rather aimed at a not-so-young audience. It may have been something near Equipage by Hermès and the spicy Halston Colognes.
Lots of guessing, but it is hard to describe a fragrance from a thirty year old memory.
Unfortunately, I was strapped for cash as well and had to spend my money on other things than perfume. And so, I never became an Avon customer.
