on the moonbeams of nostalgia
A very dear perfumer recently sent me a surprise package and included a very pretty and pleasantly round and feminine perfume bottle as a miniature.
She knows how happy I am about her lovely arrangement and I thank her once again today for this fragrant surprise that touched me so much.
It took me back in time to the Avon fragrances of the seventies, a time when I seemed to float through life young, light-footed and full of expectation.
"Moonwind" is as touching as a summer night, still filled with the warmth of the day and the tender seduction of the fragrances found there.
The fruity liveliness of the citrus accents of bergamot and grapefruit, already so familiar and yet always new to discover, is further enhanced by a firework display of aldehydes that radiates and pulsates lightly and does not fade as the fragrance develops.
Are the rays of the moon already making themselves known here, gently caressing the skin? Or is it a longing for the past that runs through my senses?
How young we were back then and how exhilarated we went through life and it is precisely this feeling of carefree lightness that is captured in this opening in light green and pale yellow fragrance tones and carried into the heart note.
This is where the delicacy and innocence of daffodils meet lavender nuances and their well-known unaffected radiance:
After all, a lavender perennial has to defy many adversities in its natural environment and yet it envelops us in its calming and at the same time invigorating variety of aromas Lavender is not just lavender and is also a phenomenon:
Lavender fragrance can simultaneously relax and at the same time (or perhaps because of it?) give renewed strength and clarity.
These two very different fragrance components need each other; they complement each other to form a floral whole amidst fragrant greenery in a pleasant woody-spicy environment.
This lightness of a bright summer day, still warmed by the sun, finds its harmonious climax in an unmistakable base of oakmoss and vetiver, which develops into a finely scented, caressing moonlit night in which the remains of a sunset in daffodil yellow and lavender blue still seem to dance their evening dance.
Young, feminine and suitable all day were these graceful fragrance creatures from the Avon and Yves Rocher brands that I knew so well at the time.
They never had the pretensions of the opulent, sometimes breathtaking appearance of the creatures with the big names and their often so impressive past.
They were charming and friendly, bringing a smile to our days with their presence alone and still accompany us today with a pleasant presence and charisma, without ever appearing intrusive or even annoying.
They surrounded us with delicate veils of scent of unobtrusive cheerfulness and left behind the fine, endearing scent of an uncomplicated, warm personality; it was often worth tracing them.
So Avon's "Moonwind" is also an extremely likeable creation from a bygone era, with the longevity and sillage meeting all the expected requirements.
These fragrances were not intended for loud, room-filling performances; they still accompany us today with the light swing of a sparkling laugh, whose cheerful lightness is not disturbing but pleasantly touching.
For this reason alone, we also need these fragrant reminders of a past, gently and tenderly embracing without ever being intrusive and yet underlining the personality, not trying to cover it up or even reshape it.
This is also how "Moonwind" says: "Hello, I'm here and I'm looking forward to meeting you! Will you come with me?"
My answer is: "You are welcome! Let's wait for summer together!"
