The name of the fragrance "Mellow Heliotrope" suggests that it would smell just like that. So, what is heliotrope anyway? Heliotrope is derived from Greek and means "turning towards the sun." Heliotrope essences are extracted from the blue-violet or white flowers of the shrub of the same name. Their scent is powdery-sweet like almond, marzipan, and vanilla, and their effect is relaxing. They could also be referred to as vanilla flowers. So, I expected a vanilla-sweet fragrance and was completely surprised. It does not just smell like "vanilla" or is super sweet, no!
The perfumer Karine Dubreuil Sereni wanted to take us on a journey to Lima, the capital of the South American Andean state of Peru, with this fragrance. The Andean country of Peru is one of the largest South American states. Behind the narrow, desert-like coastal strip along the Pacific rise several massive mountain ranges of the Andes, which enclose the highlands of the Altiplano with Lake Titicaca. To the east, they drop down to the rainforest-covered lowlands of the Amazon, which occupies two-thirds of the country. However, Lima itself is located on the dry Pacific coast of the country.
Therefore, I do not understand why Dubreuil Sereni wants to take us to LIMA with "Beyond The Collection - Mellow Heliotrope | Bentley."
The fragrance is not dry and dusty. Those who cross the Andes from the coast towards the Amazon basin experience a reversed world. "Tree line" here means: down in the coastal desert plains, no shrub, no tree, nothing grows unless it is diligently artificially irrigated like the palm resort in Paracas south of Lima. Perhaps she wanted to take us there.
Mellow Heliotrope smells fresh, floral, fruity, creamy, subtly citrusy, and minimally resinous. It is incredibly tenderly feminine and softly sensual.
At the heart of the composition, as the name suggests, is a mild, tender vanilla flower. Surrounding it are a palette of pink and violet notes. Buds of black currants, raspberry heart, and mandarin provide a wonderfully fruity note. Subtle violets and delicate gardenia create a beautiful floral bouquet. Heliotrope, vanilla, and praline make the fragrance wonderfully creamy. Elemi resin, along with the pepper, introduces spicy-peppery hints of incense, adding depth to the fragrance.
Due to the praline-vanilla, one might think the fragrance has gourmand facets - which I do not perceive. The vanilla note is semi-present here.
"Beyond The Collection - Mellow Heliotrope | Bentley" is a dreamlike summer companion. It works anytime, does not disturb anyone, and is absolutely tender, feminine, and sensual.
For lovers of
Flower by Kenzo Eau de Parfum or "La Femme | Prada," this fragrance could be a wonderful addition.
Longevity and sillage are average. The bottle is very beautiful.
The fragrance was my surprise of 2021. It is a pity that it receives so little attention here.
