Spring Morning
Another Spring fragrance for me and one that doesn’t seem to be on too many people’s radar or get discussed very often.
In fact, Caron as a brand/house rarely seems to be discussed…
Anyway, I both like this and am slightly disappointed with it…
The like comes from the scent itself which for me is; citrus, ginger, lavender and so both quite zingy and a little ‘barbershop’.
As its name suggests, it’s a perfect morning scent…but that is where it possibly (and for me) does fall down a bit and that is in terms of its longevity.
I get 2-3 hours max with a relatively low projection/sillage and that’s a bit weak for me.
So overall I do like it as a scent and though it is an EDT, I wish it had a bit more legs.
An EDP of this would be great.
I have yet to sample any other Caron fragrances, but will do as their somewhat ‘off the radar’ lack of popularity appeals to me.

Quite Different Than Pour Un Homme
As its name suggests, Le Matin seems designed for daytime wear in spring and summer. It isn't static but doesn't appear to undergo dramatic transitions. It comes off smooth / creamy, not sharp / spiky.

I get noticeable citrus (bergamot / lemon) in the opening, along with petitgrain. The citrus is not particularly zingy / sparkling. It is a refreshing opening but not in the way that something like Dior Homme Cologne or Louis Vuitton Afternoon Swim is.

The scent is very clean but not in a modern, shower gel-like, way. It's more soapy to me. For that reason, it gives me a more "old school" and mature impression than most of today’s "blue" scents. Le Matin is more white/green than blue. The bottle color (opaque white with a greenish hue) is a good reflection of what I get. It is creamier in texture than powdery but as I said it's soapier than it is anything else.

If you're looking for a scent closely tied to the original, you will not find it here. Le Matin is not a suitable replacement for Sport either. I think Le Matin is less likely to offend modern mainstream noses and comes off more overtly masculine than the original. It's also probably unlikely to be embraced by traditionalists. It's not as refreshing, juicy, or sweet as Sport.

I don't find Le Matin particularly sexy (although that is something highly subjective) and I don't think it's trying to be. I think Le Matin would make a good scent for an office setting.

It performs adequately for the kind of scent it is. You put it on the morning and it dies down in the afternoon. You put something else on in the evening (Le Soir in Caron’s design I imagine)

This is not a revolutionary perfume that someone with dozens and dozens of fragrances will be blown away by. (How many such fragrances are released every decade? Not many. Many people here and elsewhere have absurd expectations.) It is a nice scent, however, and I think people who are intrigued by the description above should find a way to test it.

Überduft Deux
Caron currently offers a "pour un homme" sample set, featuring the venerable original and two modern flankers: "Le Matin" and "Le Soir". For lavender lovers, I find this a worthwhile set: The three fragrances are different enough that it's worth trying all three. Provided you like lavender, as that is the connecting element.

"Le Matin" is the freshest of the three. It starts off with a very fresh lavender note that reminds me of the essential oil "Speicklavendel". The herbal freshness is further enhanced by a generous dose of citrus. Thus, "Le Matin" clearly distinguishes itself from the original right from the start, which begins with a much softer, darker lavender. The ginger quickly adds its own note. The slightly dirty, harsh, earthy nuances of the spicy root are emphasized by patchouli and oak moss. Sweetness is completely avoided here!

So, a strong, citrusy freshie with an earthy, crisp-herbaceous base, plus a hint of soapy geranium: In style, "Le Matin" doesn't seem too far from Terre d'Hermès Eau de Toilette. Not that the two fragrances resemble each other too much, but there are enough similarities to compare them. Against the monolithic elegance of Hermes, Le Matin presents a more abundant herbaceousness; it feels a bit less polished, rougher, more direct, perhaps more colorful if that makes sense for a fragrance.

"Le Matin" somewhat reminds me of the music of John Scofield. A virtuoso-made fragrance - not one that immediately sparks enthusiasm at first sniff, but one that I enjoy wearing again and again, as it feels light and funky yet not without depth, always remaining grounded and not becoming boring quickly with its edges and facets. A scent that fits into life.

Petitgrain, ginger & verbena refresh & disinfect wonderfully.
The shyest lavender of the house.
Base is very ordinary.

Very much in line with older lavender scents, which I don't mind, but the somewhat synthetic woody base diminishes the pleasure.

It's a bit too much of a mundane fresh men's scent for me. Zesty sour start, then a lot of herbal lavender, dry patch-wood base.

Aromatic citrus freshness sets the stage, dancing a playful dance with woody lavender. Carefree in Provence.

Subtly musty shower gel fougère, and I don't understand why we needed the 1001st version from Caron...
