Lemony L E M O N cake
The name Cookiecrunch is a bit misleading. This doesn't smell like any cookie I know of, nor does it remind me of something crunchy. It's a lemon cake fragrance, emphasis on lemon.
Especially the opening is a whole blast of citrus, it actually reminds me more of lemon essential oil than lemon cake at this stage. Honestly, it's bordering on lemon scented cleaning product, but thankfully doesn't quite cross the line. Even at the start there is a hint of sweet vanilla stopping that.
Later in the drydown the vanilla becomes more prominent. Cakey, doughy facets of the scent slowly unfold first, then it becomes quite powdery. Imagine eating a vanilla cake with heaps of lemon glaze and powdered sugar, with the sugar falling all over the table and being left even after you have finished most of the cake.
I don't get much of the milk cream or merengue note.
All in all this is a rather simple, straight-to-the-point gourmand without a lot of refinement.
I love lemon cake scents in general, and I have tried many of them. Cookiecrunch is fine, but far from the best of them. Xerjoff Lira, D&G Devotion, Kerosene Unknown Pleasures and Guerlain Shalimar Souffle all come to my mind. So I can only recommend this to people who are looking for something realistic with a huge dose of lemon and a bit of an indie vibe.
