Baking Gone Wrong?
There are alcoholic chocolate, orange-chocolate, floral-chocolate, and coffee-chocolate scents, and then there is this one. It is definitely different from the many perfumes with chocolate, as chocolate here is neither embedded in a rich fragrance bouquet nor does it frame or accompany anything, like flowers, for example.

Coquillete also brings an identifiable nut and tonka, but these only outline the essence, namely the "chocolate," even more clearly, adding more "authenticity." The result is a truly quite authentic chocolate, complete with the slight acidity that chocolate has.

When I wear "Joal | Coquillete," I never quite know if it is still a perfume or if I have splashed too much while baking and handling hot couverture, and now I just smell like it, like warm, melting, dark chocolate. The line between perfume and "product" scent is indeed fluid for me here and hard to draw.

Meaning: If someone really wants to smell like a bar of chocolate: This is it! The nice thing is that it seems less sweet to me than some "perfume representatives" of this gourmand category.

For those looking for a perfume with a strong "chocolate" character, but still a proper perfume, this might be a bit too much of a good thing.

Cocoa Caravan to Chocolate Wings
Look no further if you are in search of an authentic chocolate scent. I was on a mission, scouring niche perfumeries, where I was introduced to "Chocolate Greedy | Montale," as well as Lait et Chocolat and one from Sorriso. But everything, really everything, smelled like the cheap cocoa from a vending machine, which is mixed with water and not with milk. I had almost lost hope of encountering an authentic chocolate - or even having the same understanding of chocolate flavor in my mouth as my fellow humans - even after all the forum entries I read, specifically aimed at those on the same mission to find a genuine chocolate. One person mentioned this one here. I don't know what prompted me to give this one a chance at a sniff sample souk, as it had only garnered a few statements and is only available abroad via shipping. But I came across a unique perfumista, Melanie, who simply conjured up samples for fragrance enthusiasts with a smile. She promised me that if this scent wasn't purchased by the coming Saturday, because it is probably unknown here and not sought after, "we'll tear it open." And lo and behold - it landed in my mailbox.

And check - here I am at the end of the mission. Mission Possible. Long live "CHOCOLATE!", as the SpongeBob fish would shout. I can hardly weigh whether it is more of a milk chocolate or a darker bar, but I think 70% is in there. So, for all interested, don’t settle for cocoa, reach for the bar, nibble a little like the boy from "Matilda" or the guy who fell into the chocolate fountain in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." It is drier but not too pretentious and it doesn’t remind me at all of Milka. More like Moser Roth. If you know you know.

Rarely have I experienced such authentic chocolate in a fragrance. More bitter than sweet. Dark chocolate, nothing else. I like it.

Pure chocolate. Nothing more, nothing less. Noble milk chocolate, a hint of vanilla and tonka: irresistible. Best pure chocolate scent.

Beautiful chocolate scent. Not the common Jaffa cake, just pure chocolate, very well done. Unfortunately, it fades after 5 minutes.

Beautiful, high-quality chocolate. It doesn't drift into overly sweet territory but remains authentic + high-quality. Linear chocolatey.

Authentic chocolate with slight bitterness, acidity, sweetness... Not Milka, but more refined with a higher cocoa content. Linear.
