Since 1988, the original
Cool Water Eau de Toilette has been sold and has been kept afloat over the years by countless flankers. However, flankers can often be a tricky business...sometimes they work and the original gets an interesting touch, but in most cases, they don't come close to the original and seem like a desperate marketing gimmick to attract attention after over 30 years on the market.
Unfortunately, this is also the case here.
Since one should always start positively with criticism, I will begin with the price. Currently, you can get the perfume for 15.95 euros / 40 ml, which I would say is quite cheap. Additionally, Francis Kurkdjian was involved in the creation, which definitely piques interest.
And that's already it for the positive aspects, and unfortunately, I must start with the negative points.
In the opening, an aquatic alcohol mix hits the nose, which is actually classic for perfumes in the budget price segment. But even after the alcohol fades away, very little remains. Maritime notes, grapefruit, Sichuan pepper, birch leaf, juniper, orange blossom, patchouli, and sandalwood sound very good, but I can't really perceive any of those ingredients. It’s those undefined maritime notes that linger like a fresh splash on the neck. The rest is probably hiding beneath the water's surface.
Four sprays on the neck and after two hours, my self-perception was gone. Even for the low price, the performance is simply too weak.
I remember
Cool Water Eau de Toilette from my youth and therefore had to try
Cool Water Wave for Men when I saw it in my father's bathroom cabinet. My tip to you: stick with the original...or at least a better flanker.
If after over three decades the Cool Water DNA is gradually getting old for you, but you still enjoy maritime perfumes, another little secret tip from me is
Oud Minérale.
