Delicious citrus ginger with a superb base
This is how I like men to smell. Fresh, clean and aromatic. Without the awful trend of suffocating, dominant, amber chemicals. Slightly spicy and woodsy with many delicious neck snuggling nuances.

One of the nicest new releases for a while to my nose. There is a fresh grapefruit, masculine vibe with a delicious play on ginger and warm woods. Enriched by a seam of cocoa that warms without sweetening. There is enough cleanliness to feel like a newly bathed body in a really classy soap. A peppery tingly skin feel with rich patchouli, vetiver and cedar cleanliness.

If they made a soap of this then I would buy it tomorrow. I need to smell this again as it's still lingering in a spicy, woodsy way on the test strip six days later. Scrummy.

Classic and yet modern. A difficult mix that Davidoff has pulled off very well.

Davidoff Horizon is such a good performer!
I've read a lot of reviews, and several people have had issues when speaking about Horizon by Davidoff. Honestly, I do not understand why almost everyone disagree with that. Ain't no woof; rather, it is so damn beautiful!
Further, this jewel is on par with Terre d'Hermés, which has been my favorite signature scent, and to my skin and nose, they are two scents apart.

Let's get into the scent. Right after the initial sprinkles DH opens with a blend of citruses and ginger notes, balanced by the aromatic and green rosemary. That mixture is marvelous, unique I would dare, and far far away from the bitterness of TdH's orange, and it lingers around for roughly 10-15 minutes.
What I appreciate most in this scent is the sillage, meaning that I'm used to spraying a couple of droplets behind my neck, and I can detect the beautifulness every time I turn my head.

Smoothly, that prelude moves over to a creamy and woody cedar, which well combines with the earthy vetiver. The sillage calms down a bit, though it stays around your arms, not a skin scent yet. That is the heart, which seems to last forever, definitely quite a few hours.

And then comes the soul, a pleasant and relaxing bitter cocoa like the pure one you can meet in the finest dark chocolate, which gives a gourmand vibe to the earthiness of the vetiver.

Come on, men, it is nearly 3 pm, and after 7 hours, the elegant aura is still around me, in all its boldness. I have barely 250 more scents in my wardrobe and ain't no one similar to this. The more I smell it, the more I fall in love with it, I can't take my nose off of it.

My two cents: DH is an excellent performer, ideal for a business day as well as leisure time, I would dare even for early evening. I am wearing it today, which is the middle of March, and the calm wind of this early spring melts well with it. I would recommend it for late winter and spring as well as for late summer and fall when the temperature stays between 15°C and 20°C degrees. Not sure about its performance in the hot summer, I will have a chance to give it a try.
About the bottle, I adore the design of the metal cap. The glass is cut and frosted on the two laterals and transparent on the back and front sides. The juice's color is similar to a blonde bier, which is good.

The "new" Terre d’Hermès?
I'm not necessarily a big Davidoff fan. Cool Water, for example, has never really convinced me,... that's why it took me so long to muster the courage to test a new fragrance from Davidoff. Just like recently, when the scent was allowed to come on my arm only because I had nothing better to do and I either already knew most of the other fragrances in the store or found them even worse in my opinion :D

The scent:
At first, you can smell the grapefruit, which appears citrusy and fresh, yet the top note is rather spicy, as you can soon smell the herbs, namely ginger and rosemary, more strongly.
However, all these fragrance notes do not last too long, and the scent becomes distinctly woodier. You can smell a bit of nutmeg and patchouli for a short while, but the cedarwood becomes stronger and dominates the heart note.
The pepper only comes out in the base and initially smells inconspicuous, but then a little later it becomes noticeably more intense. In between, you occasionally smell a sweet-smelling chocolate or cocoa, but this is soon overshadowed by the pepper and wood, so that the base is spicy woody for me. Alongside, there is a hint of earthy vetiver. A little later, the pepper recedes again, but seemingly all the other fragrance notes do as well.

The sillage and longevity:
Although I sprayed my forearm and upper arm well, the sillage turned out to be rather moderate and would hardly attract attention if it weren't for the pepper.
The longevity is rather short, as the scent hardly radiates anything after four to five hours.

The bottle:
The bottle is thin and tall, has rounded edges and a thick glass bottom. The liquid is yellow, and the name of the fragrance is printed directly on the front of the bottle. The chrome spray head has a thick neck, on which the brand of the fragrance is engraved. There is no cap; instead, you can fold a metal frame over the spray head to avoid accidentally spraying the fragrance. A good idea, but poorly executed, as this metal thing does not click into place.

Well. The scent has become too inconspicuous, almost trivial. Nevertheless, I can imagine how it will appeal to many and thus be bought by many.

For me, it is simply unremarkable, although it admittedly has good approaches (for example, I think it does not smell synthetic). If more effort had been put in, a more usable fragrance could have emerged (and next time, please with less pepper and more cocoa, as the sweet note occasionally came across quite nicely).
It belongs in spring and summer and is more suitable as a daytime, casual, and vacation fragrance.

I can't quite understand the Terre d’Hermès comparisons. For me, it actually bears no resemblance to the Hermès scent. Therefore, I would not say that it smells like TH...

(Er-)tragable sour-woody 08/15-Davidoff
So far, the fragrance year 2016 has not delivered anything that would meet my long-held wish for at least 3 decent mainstream fragrances to be released.

At least I can state: The horror candidates that characterized the years 2013-2015 have not made an appearance yet.

"Horizon" settles into an acceptable middle ground. A somewhat prickly, quite sour start - mandarin, grapefruit, and ginger are quite sharp here. It’s somewhere between fresh and wiry, but by no means refreshing, as nutmeg and pepper (which have increasingly been used as all-purpose weapons lately) rather hold a spicy and piquant stance.

In the comments, there is a debate about parallels to "Terre d´Hermès" - I would say that a rather poorly copied, unbalanced tendency can indeed be recognized.

After an hour, "Horizon" improves; the sharpness diminishes somewhat, it becomes woodier, slightly mineral, with a hint of vetiver added. However, I don't know where the cocoa is supposed to be. Perhaps a very dry, unsweetened cocoa powder tone in the background, but absolutely marginal.

Longevity is okay; it would probably suffice for a barely passing grade, but certainly no more than that. At least - less catastrophic than quite a bit from the last few years...

There’s no further beyond the horizon
Davidoff has had a few minor hits lately with "Leather Blend" & some other fragrances depending on taste, but the brand still hasn’t really connected with the old times ("Cool Water", "Relax", "Classic"). A somewhat decent scent like "Horizon" is simply not enough & should not be the goal. It’s just pathetic to lazily drift in the wake of Terre d'Hermes so late. The scent itself isn’t bad; it’s nice. So, the little sister of... Yup. Compared to some, The Game is certainly usable, but overall it’s paler than Casper the friendly ghost.

An office scent, with minimal spicy grapefruit & light woods, especially cedar & pepper. No cocoa, no pep, no base. It hardly gets more defensive, gray & inconspicuous. I’ve rarely smelled less courage in 2016. I would never wear this, not even on the most boring office day - because some PCs, laptops or carpets smell more interesting. Some toilet blocks, canteens & coffees even more so. Everything overshadows this scent & has more character. It’s almost a bit embarrassing. Not just for me, but for every wearer. Some wallflowers, on the other hand, are real showstoppers. It doesn’t always have to be a grand entrance, stinker or star, but a little more would be nice. A bit more individuality, courage, action, innovation - something, dear Davidoff team, just give me something. This here, is certainly a mediocre joke that you hear for the 53rd time. For falling asleep. Not even that. The longer I think about it, the more annoying & meaningless it becomes.

Bottle: nice mix of playful & solid
Longevity: almost solid 6 hours.
Sillage: suitable for any type of office environment. Or not, for those who have read my comment completely.

Conclusion: not a hit from Davidoff & maximally solid - forgotten faster than the latest construction plans for Berlin Airport. Better to keep buying Terre d'Hermes!

Fresh, green, and zesty in the head, creamy and woody in the heart, and earthy and gourmand in the soul. That's Davidoff Horizon, what else?

It's much nicer than it comes across here. Of course, for those used to niche scents, it's a yawn, but it's great for everyday wear! Yes!

Synthetic top note mix that then dominates the scent based on an equally synthetic warm woodiness. Not for me.

Again insignificant woods and half-dry citrus. Over-designed scents rise up like in a zombie movie directed by Ralph Lauren.

It takes some nerve for a legendary fragrance maker to present this sour almost-nothing as the new release of the year.
