Fragrance Review

First thoughts, it's a Woody, Warm spicy, lavender aromatic fragrance.

• Davidoff Cool Elixir opens with a strong Oud and Lavender accord, starting off extremely woody, spicy aromatic, with some black pepper spicy accord. A complete different approach than you normally would expect from a Davidoff Cool Water. It is a bold release targetting the mature audiences.

• I sprayed a total of 5 times. Twice behind each ear, twice on the front of neck, and once in front of my chest. The longevity is much better than other cool water. It lasts approximately 10+ hours on my skin. It also projects about a 6 ft radius for the first few hours before it turns to a skin scent after 2-3 hours. (Depends on skin types)

Overall Rating (8/10)

I really like this fragrance and it's starting to grow on me. At first it was a bit boring but I realise it's a simple yet sophisticated transition from a oud-heavy scent to a nice pleasant Lavender fragrance.

Same old Davidoff
I recently got my hands on a small sampling tester. I can see why some would view it as related to Boss Bottled (more Elixir than Absolu in my opinion, due to the woody opening) but the fragrance that it most closely resembles is the new Rabanne Phantom Elixir. Allow me to explain.

Both fragrances share a marine/aquatic/fresh theme, incorporate oud or woody notes, and exhibit a somewhat darker character. Cool Elixir is significantly darker than Phantom Elixir, particularly at the outset. I also detect vanilla in both scents, more prominently in Phantom Elixir, but if you examine the ingredients for Cool Elixir, you will find Vanillin there as well.

Cool Elixir may be the finest release from Davidoff since Cool Water Parfum, which was a rather inexpensive and unremarkable Sauvage-like offering. But that does not say much. Nevertheless, Cool Elixir, as is typical with Davidoff, is boring, unexciting, and utilizes low-quality ingredients. Most importantly, it has a cheap blend that, in my opinion, smells synthetic and inexpensive.

Cool Elixir features a much darker and woodier opening compared to Phantom Elixir, while the freshness of both fragrances is relatively similar. However, in the far dry down, Cool Elixir presents a very basic wood-amber profile.

I cannot accurately comment on the performance, as I have not tested it on skin, only on a tester strip. It appears to last approximately 5 to 7 hours, at least based on my initial impression.

I would not buy it even if it was priced at 30 dollars. Phantom Elixir is also unremarkable and lacks uniqueness, yet it remains the superior option out of these two day and night.

Cool Elixir
One of the best, if not the best, new releases, both within the Davidoff/CW lineup and in general this year so far. Top-notch and excellent value for money, though completely unrelated to CW, mind you.

It’s an EDP, and it feels like one, especially since CWs are generally on the weak side unless they come in EDP form.

Comparable to CW Intense, but less strong.

Sweet yet mature in how it comes across.

I’m not a fan of gold, but the bottle feels high-quality—more so than any other Davidoff release.

It Drives Me Crazy!
I'm once again the only one who gets it - I can't help it, but I have to explain it to you. Or (see my review of CW intense) I might have finally lost my mind. I can't rule that out.

So, listen up:

With Cool Elixir, it is (at least on the surface) clearly not about Cool Water.

Otherwise, it would be called Cool Water elixir - but it isn't. Obviously.

So what is it about, what is this, what’s all the fuss? I’ll tell you: This is about Zino.

Even the squat shape and the dark coloring of the bottle with the golden cap suggest this. Then the notes: Rose, Lavender, Oud (or wood). That’s Zino DNA. Obviously.

And I think that once you recognize this, it all suddenly makes sense.

However, the "Cool" from Cool Water does come into play after all. The Cool Elixir gradually becomes fresher! It starts off woody, and over time a certain freshness emerges - and now you can see where it’s headed: A fusion of Zino and CW.
And that is masterful.
Obviously.

We will still be talking about this in 10 years - and the current rather mediocre reviews are due to the fact that no one has really understood the scent so far. Except for me. Obviously.

I will now take my leave, my padded cell awaits.

Hotter Water
Sticky, mushy, swollen… The new “Cool Elixir” from Davidoff is a bulky, aggressive, and extremely synthetic men’s rose aimed at the stickiest clubbing target group. With distinctly oriental vibes. Not too bad if you grew up with “One Million,” “The One,” and the first mass-market attempts of the industry. This latest attempt to steroidize, inflate, and unleash a “Hot Water” on the willing market of party lions, wannabe goats, and teenagers doesn’t seem too far-fetched. But somehow, it still seems to most, I think - especially here on Parfumo - as if they have long outgrown this artificial oud brat from the chemistry lab rose garden…

Davidoff has often tried to tap into the half-baked party niche and nibble away at some market share from Paco Rabanne and Co. It has never really succeeded. And in my experience, it won’t with “Cool Elixir” either. But perhaps it comes closer to the goal than ever before… “Cool Elixir” is like a comic strip from Djaffar’s realm. Or how chemists and biologists envision it in white lab coats. Nouveau riche and proud of it. Juicy, bright, neon cherry, a bit caustic. Amped-up Aladdin. Porny and nonchalant. Elephant instead of elegant. Gold chain, sunburn, loudmouth. For me, however, never bad. Not good either. I like rosy scents. This one sticks and sweats and feels a bit too muggy for me. Sugary and duty-free. A bachelor with hairspray roses. At 16, I would have definitely celebrated this. Back then, a mainstream oud would have been a sensation. Today, it’s one of many that will surely get on the nerves of quite a few people. At least I don’t have to tear it apart. A partial success. At least.

Bottle: Davidoff as usual, looks a bit dated
Sillage: detectable from shisha bar to hipster bar
Longevity: 6-8 hours of rosy (imagined) club dominance

Conclusion: a sticky rose for the dude from the Neckar. Or from elsewhere. But there are surely worse “pantydroppers.” Still, it’s more like “Davidoff (further) off track.” The blind chicken hasn’t found a new egg yet.

Long story short: this is a sweet synthetic cocktail that tries to coin in on the success of Dior Sauvage Elixir. Not worth it.

Cool Water being the fresh, aquatic icon it is imo didn’t transfer well into the world of denser, woody scents. Bold, but not for me!

Dirty Cool Water, just what you expect and kind of addictive. Don't understand, how ppl don't smell the underlying original CW DNA

Cool Water with Sauvage Elixir. This fougere licorice DNA combined with plenty of sweetness and calone takes some getting used to.

Weird opening (guessing it's from the oud), but the dry down exceeded my expectations. Good little autumn fragrance.

Cool elixir smells good initially, but the dry down is where it shines at. It’s a cross between cool water and Sauvage elixir.

Drydown at least on paper is clearly reminiscent of Sauvage Elixir

The average male cologne. It almost smells like a deodorant for me.
