Fragrance Review

First thoughts, it's a Woody, Warm spicy, lavender aromatic fragrance.

• Davidoff Cool Elixir opens with a strong Oud and Lavender accord, starting off extremely woody, spicy aromatic, with some black pepper spicy accord. A complete different approach than you normally would expect from a Davidoff Cool Water. It is a bold release targetting the mature audiences.

• I sprayed a total of 5 times. Twice behind each ear, twice on the front of neck, and once in front of my chest. The longevity is much better than other cool water. It lasts approximately 10+ hours on my skin. It also projects about a 6 ft radius for the first few hours before it turns to a skin scent after 2-3 hours. (Depends on skin types)

Overall Rating (8/10)

I really like this fragrance and it's starting to grow on me. At first it was a bit boring but I realise it's a simple yet sophisticated transition from a oud-heavy scent to a nice pleasant Lavender fragrance.

Same old Davidoff
I recently got my hands on a small sampling tester. I can see why some would view it as related to Boss Bottled (more Elixir than Absolu in my opinion, due to the woody opening) but the fragrance that it most closely resembles is the new Rabanne Phantom Elixir. Allow me to explain.

Both fragrances share a marine/aquatic/fresh theme, incorporate oud or woody notes, and exhibit a somewhat darker character. Cool Elixir is significantly darker than Phantom Elixir, particularly at the outset. I also detect vanilla in both scents, more prominently in Phantom Elixir, but if you examine the ingredients for Cool Elixir, you will find Vanillin there as well.

Cool Elixir may be the finest release from Davidoff since Cool Water Parfum, which was a rather inexpensive and unremarkable Sauvage-like offering. But that does not say much. Nevertheless, Cool Elixir, as is typical with Davidoff, is boring, unexciting, and utilizes low-quality ingredients. Most importantly, it has a cheap blend that, in my opinion, smells synthetic and inexpensive.

Cool Elixir features a much darker and woodier opening compared to Phantom Elixir, while the freshness of both fragrances is relatively similar. However, in the far dry down, Cool Elixir presents a very basic wood-amber profile.

I cannot accurately comment on the performance, as I have not tested it on skin, only on a tester strip. It appears to last approximately 5 to 7 hours, at least based on my initial impression.

I would not buy it even if it was priced at 30 dollars. Phantom Elixir is also unremarkable and lacks uniqueness, yet it remains the superior option out of these two day and night.

Hotter Water
Sticky, tangy, puffy... The new "Cool Elixir" by Davidoff is a beefy, aggressive and extremely synthetic men's rose for the stickiest clubbing target group. With distinctly oriental vibes. Not bad at all if you grew up with "One Million", "The One" and the industry's first attempts at mass appeal. This latest attempt to steroidize and inflate "Hot Water" and unleash it on the willing market of party animals, wannabes and teenagers doesn't seem too out of place. But somehow I think for most people - especially here on Parfumo - it seems as if they have long outgrown this artificial oud angel from the chemical laboratory rose garden...

Davidoff has often tried to enter the semi-tough party niche and nibble off some market share from Paco Rabanne and co. It has never really succeeded. And in my experience, "Cool Elixir" won't either. But perhaps we are getting closer to our goal than ever before... "Cool Elixir" is like a comic strip from Djaffar's realm. Or how chemists and biologists in white coats imagine him. Newly rich and proud of it. Juicy, bright, neon cherry, a little caustic. A boosted Aladdin. Pornographic and nonchalant. Elephant instead of elegant. Gold chain, sunburn, Klätschkopf But never bad for me. Not good either, though. I like pink. But this one sticks and sweats and is a bit too sultry for me. Sugar and duty free. A bachelor with hairspray roses. I would have celebrated this when I was 16. Back then, a mainstream boud would have been a sensation. Today, it's one of many, and I'm sure it will even annoy quite a few people. At least I don't have to put him down. A partial success. After all.

Flacon: just Davidoff, gets a bit old
Sillage: smellable from shisha bar to hipster bar
Longevity: 6-8 hours of rosy (imaginary) club supremacy

Conclusion: a sticky rose for the checker from the Neckar. Or from somewhere else. But there are certainly worse "pantydroppers". Nevertheless, "Davidoff (still) on the wrong track" applies here. The blind hen has not yet found a new egg.

Pleasant discovery
I discovered Davidoff Cool Water Elixir today on my regular Douglas tour. And what can I say, when I saw the fragrance notes I had to take a sniff. I was so enthusiastic about it that I brought a bottle with me. For me, it is a successful evolution of the classic. It offers an interesting combination of freshness, warmth and a modern sweetness that makes it an appealing and versatile fragrance. Definitely an elegant outgoing fragrance. If you like the original but are looking for a warmer, slightly sweeter version, you should definitely give this fragrance a try.

On a beautiful summer's day...
... i'm standing with friends in their rose and herb garden. It has just rained and the roses and herbs are exuding their aromas in abundance. Plus the damp wood. We enjoy our coffee on the terrace that afternoon, accompanied by a lavender and rose cake. Simply something different.

The first thing you notice about this fragrance is a certain dark, slightly sweet spiciness. A citrusy freshness comes to the fore again and again. This does not remain, but comes back again and again in waves. Despite the spiciness, the fragrance has something clean about it. It also has a dry vibe. All this together gives it a present masculine note that is not disturbed by the sweetness.

The longevity and silage are good.

Here the house of Davidoff has launched a fragrance for the gentleman that is based on Sauvage Elixir by Dior but does not really copy it but retains its independence. It is definitely not the reinvention of the wheel. I can imagine it being worn by boys aged 16 and over. But the twenties and older can also wear it well. I can imagine this fragrance with its strong masculine aura on the ladies. Except for very hot days, it is easy to wear. It cuts a fine figure during the day at school, at university, in the office in a suit or with jeans and a T-shirt as well as when shopping. In the evening, he is a party stallion who feels just as comfortable in a bar, club or beach party as he does in a suit at the opera or theater.

If you like a dark, slightly sweet, spicy, clean fragrance with a hint of citrusy freshness every now and then, you're in good hands with Davidoff.

Cool Water being the fresh, aquatic icon it is imo didn’t transfer well into the world of denser, woody scents. Bold, but not for me!

Cool Water with Sauvage Elixir. This fougere licorice DNA combined with plenty of sweetness and calone takes some getting used to.
