Well, i'd say that the Game is successful and common at the same time. Don't get me wrong, i wasn't surprised by it, but thinking well, isn't this a fragrance to enter the competition to win the average buyer? This is really a game where the strategy favors more the image and appearance you construct than the novelty or the essence itself. And the strategy seems to go from the point where a lot of competitors goes, One Million. Don't confuse this by thinking that it smells like One Million, because it doesn't. But it's strategy on this game it's the same of One Million: a sweet base, with shades of amber and woods, here married by a fougere fruity accord, with boozy aspects, like a lot of fragrances launched recently. The Game seems to look like new at the same time being what every other competitor, being the image what makes it a winner or looser. It's not for me, i wouldn't buy it and i think this structure is tiresome and dull, but if their aim was this, it's, after all, a winner.

Some fragrances are encountered in unusual ways. Davidoff's The Game and I first (and second and third) met in the locker room of my gym. I always ask for the same locker number at check-in - and apparently, other gentlemen (and ladies, as I've noticed) have this habit too, so if the daily rhythm is similar, you often find yourself changing next to the same people. One of these 'neighbor locker users' - visually, let's say: in the middle range, though that is always in the eye of the beholder - generously douses himself after training with something from a cylindrical, anthracite-colored bottle, which I (due to the amount used and yes: also because of the scent itself) always thought was something from the dm store. I only found out it was The Game when I approached the bottle quite closely under the pretext of wanting to throw something in the trash - one becomes so resourceful when one doesn't want to ask or isn't sufficiently interested for a direct approach.

The Game, what can I say? This gentleman (undoubtedly a nice guy) has a certain daring look when spraying that could mean: 'Awesome stuff - yeah, I know!' and immediately reminded me of the unfortunate son of the even more unfortunate Chicago shoe salesman Al Bundy (four touchdowns in one game, back then: Polk High!), who considered himself 'Grandmaster B' as a flesh-and-blood gift to women, who, to his dismay, only moderately shared this assessment. The Game thrives on a sweet, almost silly masculine-sporty top note that can be almost seamlessly categorized into the scent notes of shower gels and body lotions (do they actually work?) around it, especially in the locker room of a gym. It lacks self-irony and any element of surprise and - if I can validly say this based on the outside of my gym bag - also any base note. I noticed that I involuntarily take a step back while my training buddy sprays himself, so I don't get caught in this cloud where he luxuriates like a connoisseur of life and the female world. Still completely value-free and without hidden mockery: he seems to love this scent and has discovered 'his scent' in it - and isn't that what matters?

Conclusion, in Bud Bundy's words: 'Is it hot in here, or is it just me?'

I want to play a game ...
... one might want to suggest to the marketing people at Davidoff. And anyone who knows a bit about the film world knows that nothing good comes after that.

But how else should one react to “The Game,” the desperate act of a brand on the decline that wants to play high stakes? Admittedly, I don’t know the sales figures of the latest “great achievements” like Champion and Champion Energy - but masterpieces from the past like Zino, Relax, or even Cool Water (which is so good that unfortunately far too many have taken a liking to it) can no longer be expected from Davidoff.

And so, it seems, they looked a bit enviously at the huge success of Paco Rabanne's cash cow “One Million” and sought at least something comparable in terms of naming and glamour attitude. So the cards were reshuffled and they opted for the vast world of gambling or poker. This has been terribly trendy for years and sounds delightfully reckless with its associations of betting, risk, adventure, success, profit, and wealth.

For the targeted audience, they created a stack of poker chips as a fragrance container, probably from the same toy designer who already tricked out the Champion bottle. Just as embarrassing could a cheap perfume from a souvenir shop in Las Vegas look. But well - taste can be debated, rolled, or let the cards speak.

And what does The Game smell like? Sure - one should keep their expectations low. The top note promises a warm, dull-fruity start. Okay! But it somehow feels familiar and leans slightly towards “One Million.” However, one should only think about that as long as the cards are being dealt at the poker table. Because suddenly a dark base mood rushes in, with which Davidoff would like to raise the stakes in terms of noble woods, but for me it rather smells like slightly burnt plastic and elastane. One might think that the stack of chips on the bottle has affected the content.

It doesn’t get much better in the base, as The Game turns out to be thoroughly synthetic - nothing here seems to be of natural origin. Moreover, the longevity is anything but generous.

To play with completely open cards: Overall, The Game is a calculated counter to the competition based on its target audience, which one can just about wear without falling into poker face paralysis. What annoys me, however, is this blatant rip-off mentality at Davidoff when one looks at the relatively high price for this big bluff, where buyers are heavily taken for a ride. Anyone who goes for it must have a playful spirit.

For me, it only means: Game over!

Cool Water or no Cool Water? That is the question.
1. Impression: Smells exactly like Cool Water.
2. Impression: Somewhat bittersweet!
3. Drydown: Sweet-bitter, soapy, this scent is quite wearable!
4. Base note: The base note comes through! A lot is really coming across: Soapy freshness, as well as aromatic depth, could that be the ebony?
Sillage: good and long-lasting.
4. Conclusion: A bit of everything. Definitely better than Sauvage. What was the difference to Cool Water again? After the drydown, a bit too sweet for my taste. But: Not as bad as it's always portrayed here - But what game are we actually playing? Anyone who takes me? Or; something for everyone? Or; I think I can get anyone?

Winner takes All
This is the slogan of the men's fragrance The Game from the cigar empire of Zino Davidoff.

It is certainly an art to create a fragrant accessory for a tobacco company. Only Zino Davidoff perfectly reflects the older gentleman in a leather armchair with a luxury Davidoff cigar in his mouth, as tobacco is also included here.
But what other fragrance notes suit the Davidoff brand?

Zino Davidoff was not only a lover of the finest tobacco, he was generally a fan of luxury goods and was widely known as a connoisseur. Fragrances like Good Life and Relax reflect this...

Now to The Game:
When one considers the idea of enjoyment and luxury in a modern light and asks: "What does that mean today?" it leads to simply celebrating relaxedly with friends, enjoying, having fun, spending money, and of course, thrill.

We have now arrived at The Game... It brings the Davidoff brand into the new millennium, as the old classics unfortunately no longer make a sufficient impact, and here marketing must respond. Even though it pains me to part with old treasures.

On the advertisement poster, we see a city at night with many lights and a happy couple enjoying an evening at the casino... The color black promises many secrets... of the night and of the fragrance...

The packaging, also in black, is printed with the outlines of stacked chips...

The bottle, extraordinary, also in black, is stacked into a large pile of chips. With this fragrance, many possibilities are open to us...

The new The Game, I immediately thought of the discontinued Game from 2005, but it fits the campaign. The marketing and the fragrance capture the spirit of the times: mystery, fun, party, curiosity, seduction, desire, and of course, the game, the uncertain.

I just sprayed it on and I smell precious woods, with a warm-sweet and mysterious note. The sweet-bitter Gin Fizz in the fragrance reflects the drink of the night. For me, the juniper accord is particularly exciting. I have hardly perceived it as intensely and uniquely in other fragrances as in The Game. It is warm, spicy, mysterious, and unique.

I am curious what The Game will reveal during my next party night... How will the chips fall?

But Davidoff, The Game?
Pseudo-woody & sweet, a bit spicy - over
Doesn't deserve any fame

"Oh man, it smelled sooo seductive!" Explanation for my best friend's biggest mistake. Bottle in hand, guy gone, he's taken. Gamer life, I guess.

Fresh, creamy, and sweet. A truly great all-rounder. Gets a worse reputation than it deserves. I think it's awesome.

One of my first fragrances back then - I think it gets a worse reputation here than it deserves.
Beautiful gin-woody-sweet note.

This perfume is getting a bad rap! It's not a showstopper, but worth a try. Sweet and extravagant! Heavy standing on Parfumo for the scent.

In my mid-20s, I found it great and discovered it through ads in the gym. Looking back, that says something. I can't pick out any of the notes.

A pretentious scent with very synthetic nuances. Only interesting for those who enjoy getting ripped off or have a playful spirit.

This is it. The one fragrance that stands out after testing, rises up, and makes you crave more.

Too smoky-spicy for my taste. Sure, it's fine for a casino visit, but too special for everyday wear. It doesn't suit me either.
